SYD Airport hotels

Rydges is clearly ideal but can be a but pricey - anyone know of any good promo codes / specials out there?

Otherwise, a littler farther away, has anyone stayed at the CKS Hotel? How hard is it to get an Uber on a weekday morning for the short trip to the terminal?

I just stayed at the Pullman on domestic arrival at a very good price. Sydney Shuttle is only $7 each way domestic or international terminal. We booked the 4:50am pick up for our early flight out.

On Saturday night I stayed at Citadines, which was really nice. There are three levels of rooms, ”Economy” being $167/night. Very comfortable bed and really nice toiletries as well as premium coffee bags and tea bags. I took the airport bus from International to Domestic then a taxi to Citadines for $14.85 because of luggage. You can walk to the domestic terminal but I took the Sydney Shuttle again the next morning. Rydges has become quite expensive, even for the convenience . It has also cancelled its shuttle, so you have to use the airport bus between terminals.

i have stayed at the CKS quite a few times and have had no pRobles, although their pricing is seasonal, the good thing I like about it is that you can wander down to the rowers club for a good inexpensive meal.
They also have an airport shuttle bus which is very reliable.

Also factor in the burgeoning strip of hotels along O'Riordan St / Bourke Rd between Domestic and Mascot Station. Many choices. Most are new hotels built in the last 1-3 years. Walking distance from Domestic and $10 cab/Uber ride to International. Stamford Plaza also has great views of QF domestic operations and both runways.

When I'm just "passing through" I often stay at the Novotel near International. Nice hotel. Good food. Super quick to get Uber to terminal 24/7 (they queue up in a nearby street waiting for jobs).

If I'm planning to go into the City while I'm transiting then I prefer the O'Riordan Street strip as it's an easy walk to Mascot station. Novotel is also walkable to Wolli Creek... but if returning after dark requires a walk across the park, in the dark :)

Jealous of the Accom & Transport choices available to Sydney siders... here in Melbourne (the world most Livable city :| ha ha) we are 20-30 years behind the rest of the world big global cities. :(

We're retirees who like to travel a lot so budget is important to us. We catch the 400/420 bus to Mascot and stay at either Adina or one of the Meritons, depending which has the best value offer.

If only the 400/420 bus stopped near Robey St. It's a bit far for seniors to walk with check in baggage.

I have stayed at CKS several times; it's a very good motel, has a decent restaurant and the shuttle is $8 per head to terminal.
However, we found it easier and no dearer to hop in a cab.

We also catch the bus, but really like the Citadines Hotel ( have had some really cheap prices there too $120/ night) Also easy walk to domestic terminal or cheap Uber to international.

I thoroughly agree with the earlier post re Rowers Club; a short stroll from the CKS.
It's a great little club with a darn good menu and nice views.

Re Rydges they have their own free membership program promising good rates
They give you a free drink voucher and you get discounts at the restaurant as well
If I’m staying at Rydges and flying Domestic I just check at the transfer area for international travel lers just opposite the Hotel
To save money I get off at Mascot Station and get the 400 bus that runs from Burwood to Bondi Junction via the Airport It stops opposite Rydges I’m allergic to the gate fee at the Airport station. If there are two or more if us we either get a taxi or an Uber and it’s still cheaper than the gate fee is for all of us
If you are picking up someone from the Airport
I park at Rowers on Cook river just opposite the Novotel in levey st and wait for a text and then meet my friends in the driveway of Rydges

Pay the extra and stay at Rydges provided you get a room overlooking the runway. Watching a busy airport at efficient business is a sight to behold. Worth the extra cost.

You can also watch the planes from Citadines. It’s actually very clever, the reception/ bar/ restaurant is all on the 9th ( top) floor. Doesn’t matter of the orientation of your room, there are fantastic views available to everyone.
also can walk to Domestic Terminal if that’s where you happen to be leaving from.

There's a new 5* Pullman hotel just opened up near the airport, just past the Holiday Inn on the way to Mascot station. They offer a shuttle bus for $7 each way, I was emailed a really cheap deal just last week, $220 including buffet breakfast. First class breakfast too

Over time we have used Rydges, Ibis, Stamford and our own place for transit stays. Each place has its own pluses and minuses and prices can vary so much in a big city like Sydney wher pricing can vary dramatically.
i am pleased that the choices have widened with the new accommodation at Green Square being just a quick train ride to the airport. Green Square is an urban renewal project that is transforming that area dramatically.
I have seen Veriu at $124 at Green Square and Rydges opposite the international check in at about $250 less a discount and some kickers.
The good news is there is now lots of choices so you can pick what suits your needs.
Typically we would not need to eat or drink on an overnight stay as we have Qantas lounge access.

Value Suites, right next to Green Square station is quite new by the look of it, perfectly good IMO and very easy to get to/from. I used it in June. Rydges has become too costly IMO.
I stayed there this weekend for AFF #13.

90 second walk to/from Green Square station (entrance ↔ entrance).

They have a small lounge with complimentary Nespresso (flying saucer type) during the day; also light bites at breakfast time (small pastries, muffins, muesli bars, water).

Rooms have basic microwave coking facilities, crockery and cutlery.

On the roof is another lounge open during the day with 340 degree views of the surrounds - great for aircraft spotting,

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I am a fan of Meritons because of the size of the rooms. I did a review of Coward St Mascot here-Meriton Suites Coward St Sydney | Australian Frequent Flyer

Also appreciated being walking distance to a club and various shops & restaurants. There is also a Meriton Mascot Central

I have stayed at both the previous mascot central (the one above Woolies) and the new one just down the road, both of them are fabulous for what they are, but a bit overkill for an overnight stay (though if you get a good rate it's awesome and very comfortable)

I have also stayed extensively at the Pullman as one of my clients was round the corner and can vouch for how nice it is. If you can get a good rate here it's also very good (and the breakfast is quite nice)

Adina near Mascot is quite decent & they often have special rates advertised.

If looking for breakfast there is a small cafe called Coward Corner nearby which I would recommend & is open on weekends which is a bonus.

What is a good price for Rdyges? Any rhyme or reason on how far out to book to get the best price and/or specials?

We used to get the "plane spotter package" for $253, booking 3-4 months out (for our annual long holidays in 2017 and 2018). That included $50 F&B credit and the runway view. Just checked for 4 March, same package is $409!
