Hey all,

If I book a Swiss flight Zurich to Singapore on one ticket and then have a Singapore Airlines redemption ticket to Bali would they check the bags all the way through from Zurich please?

Appreciate the help.

While LX and SQ are Star Alliance members, in order to have baggage checked through to destination, you actually need both flights on the same ticket.

Separate to that, SQ and the LH group which include LX have a Joint Venture Agreement but the benefits of the JV usually extends to single ticket travel only.

JV Agreement

That said, Changi has transfer desks, and in the past it has been possible for transit passengers on separate tickets to approach the transfer desks to ask then to retrieve and retag the baggage without the passenger having to clear immigration, pick up baggage and recheck.
There are transfer desks in each terminal.

So, in short, there is no guarantee that your baggage will be checked through to DPS but there are 2 possibilities- ask check in at ZRH, and failing that, ask the transfer desk at SIN Terminal 2 (generally this is the arrival terminal for LX at SIN). In any case you may have to visit the Transfer Desk if you are unable to get a Boarding pass for the SIN-DPS sector.

The other way around would be fine ... SQ will through check luggage and issue a boarding pass for LX even on separate bookings.

But, it is the policies of the first carrier that dictate whether they do it or not. So it's up to the policies (and competency at checkin) of LX.

Anecdotal evidence suggests they will.

The other factor is that you are not protected, if the LX flight is late and you miss your SQ flight, you probably will have to buy a new one for the next morning and pay for a night's hotel in SIN. But unless you're arriving on a Friday night, or the Singapore school holidays, it shouldn't cost too much to buy a whole new ticket (just not on SQ), . I assume you will have 3-3.5 hr between flights at SIN. Probably a risk that is OK to take.
