A left field question, but I need some SCs but can't justify punting the whole family into J - it's a daytime flight of 6 hours or so.

What I'd like to do is buy myself a J seat and the wife and kids 3 Y seats - but in the interest of domestic harmony, I'd like to sit in Y with the kids (while earning J SCs), leaving the better half to "enjoy" Jetstar J.

I'm not prepared to leave the kids in Y solo (and don't think I could anyway under the strict UM rules on Jetstar)

What do you reckon the FAs would make of this? Has anyone tried to "share" a J seat on Jetstar?

Do you want to swap once or more? Or let your wife take the seat for the whole trip?

If the latter ask the FA and you should be ok but don't expect to see her again for that trip.

I can't see J* letting you swap mid journey.

should be fine if you kindly approach an F/A once you're seated/during boarding in J/C.. or directly after take off/seat belt sign off.....so the swap can be done just after take off...and as others say...this arrangement will remain for the duration of the flight... no 'swapping back n forth' during flight... no asking for J/C 'things' to be sent 'down the back' to your partner during flight.....and of course, if the original request is denied, accept the decision gracefully and proceed as per 'booked' :)

EDIT..crew DO check the seating/pax lists.. ;)

If she just sat down in the J seat from the beginning and you sat in Y with the kids, how would they ever know? I would think you should be fine.
Do they look at the names on a list to double check?

And if they say no, you have the perfect situation. "Sorry dear, I really wanted to sit back with the kids, but they are making me sit here in J" How could she be mad at you then if it's not your fault :)

Thanks for the comments everyone, just a one off swap (though she can always pop back and say hello if she wants :)). So a polite approach to the FA sounds like the best approach.

Mark3000, I'm not sure if just sitting down without asking will work - there is a risk that they'll have a list of names for the J passengers so they can be addressed by name; but as you say, worst case, the FA says no, and I have to sit up the front. How sad :)

We have done the swap on boarding on QF, HKG-SYD just by asking and without issue.

I would suggest it will be very much the same on JQ.
