For the brains trust - we are heading to Surfers Paradise for a week post Christmas now that we are finally allowed to travel to Queensland (keep those fingers crossed we actually get there). I appreciate it's a pretty touristy area but any cafe or restaurant recommendations would be welcome.

I have two on a rather old list - House of Brews (because a decent beer list covers many ills) and Yamagen, because Japanese is usually done well in Japanese tourist detinations.

Yamagen, because Japanese is usually done well in Japanese tourist detinations.
Yamagen is not what it used to be, more fusion these days, like the slightly better known one in Mermaid Beach called Etsu (white barn door). If you want good Japanese at a high price, I believe The Star has a good restaurant, but in Surfers, there's a lovely Japanese restaurant called You.

I like to dine at a dumpling/Chinese restaurant called Peter's Awesome Dumplings & Fried Rice that's in a mall on Cavill, when I want that sort of cuisine. Never had an issue, touch wood.

The small chain of Chiang Mai Thai restaurants offer great Thai food (Thai owned).

I would have previously recommended the Northcliffe Surf Club (still nice), but their COVID menu offering really doesn't do it for me compared to their previous menu.

Baritalia, near the tram stop at Cavill, is really good, and I've eaten there as part of a work function before.

You tend to have nice dining options on both Chevron Island, a short walk from SP, and in the Via Roma complex on the Isle of Capri – depending on where you're staying, can still be a short journey. In fact, Chevron has a nice restaurant called Fu Manchu and the sister restaurant is on the Isle of Capri called Madam Fu – one of the staff working here is a Qantas FA.

A little further afield (uber) you have Lupo and Etsu in Mermaid Beach and I recently discovered a Cambodian fusion place called Bunnath Kitchen in Robina.

It really depends what cuisine you're after as to suggestions though. Also perhaps, how much you want to spend. Anything down Cavill is likely to be busy, despite COVID restrictions, as well.

If you want very good authentic Japanese take a trip on the tram to Southport and visit Goto Japanese. Bookings are a must Goto | Japanese Restaurant | Southport

Breakfast, Elk in Broadbeach is worth a look. Go before 8am to beat the crowds and have a more relaxed atmosphere.

Salt meat and cheese in surfers does decent pizza and pasta. They have a lunch menu which you can get smaller serves. Bookings recommended

If you give an idea of what types of meals are after I can guide you to a few more places.

Please feel free to message me via PM to discuss further

Cheers

Thanks all. We tend to eat more French/Italian and steak/grill rather than Asian. And good breakfast venues with excellent coffee to make me happy. If the food is good quality, then pricing is not an issue.

more options,

Miss Moneypenny's Broadbeach modern food with nice surroundings.

Coffee in Surfers you have a few good options
Paradox is a coffee roaster and cafe. They are very hit and miss with the coffee, their beans are great however they seem to have a real mix of staff who either do it well or terrible. The food has let us down.
ESPL - next to KFC at surfers beach. Very basic almost a take away only place but reliable good quality coffee. Grab a coffee and cross the road at sit at the beach 😎

Our favourite in that area is Alfresco Italian on the corner of Hamilton Ave and Surfers Paradise Blvd. Never had a bad meal there. Q1 light rail station is quite close.

There is also a pricey French place in Mermaid Beach called Little Truffle, however have never eaten there myself.

Best breakfast and great coffee for me goes to Commune in Burleigh, but I appreciate that's quite a drive. Further for me in fact as I don't live in Surfers.

I always go to You for the degustation (order days prior). It's like you're in Japan. And also Omeros Bros at the Mirage.

Agree with commune great breakfast/brunch, you need to catch the 700 bus to get there from Broadbeach.

Little truffle was nice but I expected more, it was missing something.

The Glenelg Public House has fantastic steaks. A short bus (700) or Uber ride from Broadbeach.

Main beach hot shot cafe is nice on tedder avenue which you can walk to from the main beach tram station.

Last visit to Marina Mirage was disappointing as most of the stores have closed down. I saw an ice cream place there wanting $8 for a single scoop...

For steaks and ribs- hurricanes (as per Bondi Beach establishment) is part of the soul complex.
Agree about ESPL for good coffee.
Depending on how far you want to travel, there are great places further south such as BSKT for breakfast /lunch and a number of places at Burleigh (grab a pizza and sit on the grass at Burleigh Heads)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Can't recall if Moo Moo's still exists in Broadbeach, but I know Black Angus recently moved from Sanctuary Cove to Surfers Paradise and has good steak! Best steak on Gold Coast for me has always been Cav's Steakhouse though, and I see they finally knocked down the old site recently, but it has popped up at the former home of Gotham in Runaway Bay (not far from Harbour Town shopping centre).

There used to be a great restaurant in Soul called SEAduction, that has long since closed, but replaced with Hyde Paradiso that does some lovely bottomless brunches (feat. champagne) on the weekend :p
