Sun 5Sep26. CGK and all Jakarta area airports still closed

This is always what scares me about doing a positioning flight somewhere with a separate ticket to Europe - mind you I guess my outbound flight wouldn't be going anywhere either

Agree - sort of like positioning for a cruise.

While outbounds are also affected, I would prefer to be at the port.
I guess as @Melburnian1 what is your risk/reward profile.....

Media reporting more than 150,000 travellers effected so far.

All airports in the vicinity of the eruption remain closed until 1800 local (2100 AEDT). However, there is some good news just starting on IDN social media.

Ash has stopped falling in Jakarta and the natural disaster agency just reported to the President that it is now clear over Jakarta.

Also note that QF have NOT (yet) cancelled tomorrow’s QF41 flight SYD-CGK.

They’ve sent me an sms and email noting they’re closely monitoring the situation.

Dammit. The IDN authorities have decided to keep the airports closed until next review at 2359 local. Guess I’ll find out what’s what on my early morning start from CBR.

They’re acting out of an abundance of caution and so that they can clean the runways and taxiways.

CGK has reopened as of 0001 in Jakarta. (0300 AEDT)

I’m sure it will be a madhouse as they try to clear backlogs of pax and aircraft.
