ninja I assume you are saying that you have searched both those sectors individually? Have you tried to search MEL-SIN-LHR as married sectors on the day of the MEL-SIN sector you searched? If YES and it displays both those 2 sectors when married as 'available' then book online. If it does not display the 2 sectors as married then YES call up and ask - there is no guarantee that the 2 individual sectors will be available to be 'married' but by all means ask. Good luck and please report back on your findings.

That's the problem cruiser. Stopovers have dropped from the search function on redemptions so it will only show anything < 24 hours (which may still assist ninja)

Stopovers were never available online for o/w rdpts - you always had to call - with the new site yes it did show a 'Stopover' selection panel for o/w rdpts but if you tried to add one into your online booking I always found the system would 'foul' so I just click 'Skip' as I have not wanted to add stopover as yet - I just tested MEL-SIN-FRA for late Dec 2016 and 'Stopover' panel appears but still fouls when I try >24hr stopover - I need to call KF right now anyway so I will ask the question.

Note: My new girl on long leave so I am back to square one right now.

Yeah, I have searched individually and married.

MEL-SIN SQ 218 Arrives 0600 and SIN-LHR SQ 308 dep 0905 next day. Hence stopover >24hrs. All the married sectors (MEL-LHR) are waitlisted for Day 1.

I'll have to transfer points over before I make the call.

Thanks for the help everyone, and I'll let you know how it goes.

I am in the process of planning a UK/Ireland trip in April/May 2017 and have come up with an idea I would like to get some feedback from the more experienced KF flyers as it is too early to call KF to test it out.

Now as we all know there is no F out of PER which can make it difficult to find married sectors for mixed class redemptions.

So I was thinking of calling to book a J fare with a stop over and paying the $100USD fee.

Then saying I would like to change the SIN-LHR leg to F and pay the difference in points for this segment. Last time I had a successful mixed redemption KF agent put the booking under two separate PNRs to get around it so I may suggest this as an option as I am hoping that this may get around the married sector requirement.

So after the 15% discount is applied (because of course there is no way of doing this online) hopefully this would result in a points cost of 95,625 instead of 97,750 for a straight mixed J/F award.

I think I am going to need one of your KF Superstars though Cruiser, how long until your new protegee is back from leave?

Workings:
PER - LHR J 85,000
PER - LHR F 115,000

SIN - LHR J 80,000
SIN - LHR F 107,500
Difference 27,500

PER - SIN J - LHR F = 85,000 + 27,500 = 112,500
Minus 15% discount = 95,625

Now my other challenge is to drop the UK departure tax from my intended LHR-AUH EY Apartments flight. I thought I had it with buying some points from AA and departing from DUB on BA to transfer in LHR but the points devalution from March isn't helping the numbers there.

just as an aside there seems to be some confusion over 'married segments'.

married segments does not refer to two flights that happen to be booked back-to-back to create an itinerary. Married segments refers to the proactive management of flights between an origin and destination, usually manifested by restricting the use of individual segments where the airline wishes to sell end-to-end only.

An example of a married segment would be CX allowing TPE-HKG-LAX as a single award, but having no availability on either the TPE-HKG or HKG-LAX sectors if you tried to book them individually.

Fair enough, so what is the correct term where the individual sectors are available but the it won't ticket as a single award despite being within the rules? I just assumed it was the same issue as you explained but in reverse.

I have had KF say they cannot ticket it due to "no quota".

This is my experience too. I wanted SYD- KUL and nothing was showing but there was availability for SYD- SIN and SIN- KUL but they would not join them for me. I tried a couple of different agents and got the same answer about quotas.

This is not an uncommon problem but their is nothing KF agents can do about it - they can only 'marry' / 'link' / 'mate' / 'join' (whichever term MEL approves) sectors which show permitted - it is somehow a mysterious phenomena controlled at back end by yield management team - nobody knows how they work - sometimes you just cannot achieve what looks oh so simple.

Sitting in LHR F lounge waiting to board SQ 321. Managed to get my saver J changed to a suites saver 3 days ago . Seated in 4F as my preferred 3F was taken. Checked in and no gold boarding passes at LHR and no TPR gold invite ..... Yes that noise you just heard was CE choking on his cornflakes All is not lost however as the lounge blossom has just given me the invite For those that need to know the bubbles are Laurent-Perrier. Will be taking SQ227 to MEL tomorrow if anyone fancies a drink in SIN

Close! If you were on 207/217 I could have totally caught you at SIN.

Last time I was in LHR in R, more than a year ago, I got a plain boarding pass, citing no stock, and no Gold TPR invite at check in. Had to ask for one and they said one will be provided at the lounge/gate, which it was.

Ah, that sucks for me. I was hoping to have some glimmer of hope before making the call.

What did you end up booking?

Gday

Due to other circumstances i ended up having to change my travel dates and was able to find flights that were SYD- KUL on one award and bookable all online.

However if i had to travel on that date I would have just taken the redemption on SYD- SIN and bought a revenue ticket for SIN- KUL. It would be a Y ticket too as you can pick up one way Y tickets for less than $50 whereas one way J tickets on that route are usually $500. I cant justify the difference for a 40 minute flight. And one way J never seem to be on sale.

One interesting thing I noticed is that between SIN and KUL Oman airlines have a daily flight as a part of a longer service back to MCT and the J looks unbelievably good. As good as some F. If that was on sale at $300 i would give it a try.

LHR To SIN was great as always with suites. The green goddess looking after me was called Twinkle and took great pride in tucking me in at bed time:). The poor girl had a touch of laryngitis and in true SQ fashion following protocol it was her duty to make the inflight announcements. Due you think one of the others could have subbed for her.... Oh no its Sq protocol and therefore it cannot be changed. I do love SQ because you always know what you are going to get. By the book service:)

I had to play around with my travel dates quite a bit too as I need to be in CDG for a friends wedding and also booking my delayed honeymoon; 2 birds with 1 stone.

Took me a good couple days of sifting through a few weeks of flights and all the a380 ports in Europe to find good dates with availabilities of a380s on both legs (MEL-LHR and CDG-SYD). MEL-LHR was hard since the a380 was only flying 2-3 days of the week ex-MEL. I'm so lucky they decided to return it to MEL during my holiday, but it stops before my return date.

Made the days work for the honeymoon + friends wedding so can't wait to book them later today :D Just means a longer holiday than I planned ;)

Finally booked! It'll be my 2nd time in suites. Last one being a year ago. Not as frequent as others here, although I wish it was.

20/8 MEL-LHR and 07/9 CDG-SYD with suites on all legs. Don't mind transiting SYD-MEL if it means I get suites on the final leg, just have to find flights which will give similar luggage allowance.

Didn't end up calling the call centre to try and book 2 separate O/W legs (MEL-SIN and SIN-LHR) on 2 separate days as I found an availability 2 days earlier for the full journey MEL-LHR. Also, seemed very unlikely it would be allowed and too much hassle.

Looking forward to our second suites redemption later this year. Mixed class saver booking ZRH -PER was possible this time with a knowledgeable agent helping with the booking. Will be a J arrival into Europe as our destination and timing are better suited to those flights.
