Hello

Long time lurker, first time poster! I've cashed in my QFF points to fly Mrs Cheeky & myself in business to Hong Kong later in the year, can't wait to be back at the pointy end with the clean air :D.

I've previously had suits made in Hong Kong but wondered if anyone had any insight into having existing shop bought suits adjusted in HK? Mrs Cheeky has had me on a diet and now all my suits are hanging off me, and I wanted to know if its possible of get alterations made to off the rack suits? Is the cost reasonable or do the tailors try to push you into getting new suits made?

If anyone has any experience of getting suit jackets and pants adjusted and could recommend anyone or outline likely costs, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

HKG is no cheap suit Mecca as I found out myself last year with a similar experience. You'll probably find it cheaper to have new suits made unless it's just the pants taken in. Australia is cheaper and usually better (in my experience). These guys are worth checking out Oscar Hunt (and no, I don't work for them) and I think they alter as well

You would be better off sourcing a local shop in Aus to do minor adjustments as it's going to be around the same price.
Keep in mind if you're white - you'll pay the tax for most things in HKG and this includes suits.
Prices of new suits are reasonable in HKG but Thailand,Vietnam are cheaper.
As my father always said - go for quality over price.

But those charming Indian men on Nathan Road offer me cheap suits every week. Surely they aren't misleading me on price?!

Appreciate the feedback, I'll look local for the adjustments, only problem now is the suitcase will have more space for the wife's purchases...

I would agree with the majority - get alterations done in Australia. We do them well here, and the price is not that much different to a good tailor in Hong Kong. Plus you have to carry the suits to HK, traipse around the city to get to the tailor, and then repeat to pick the suits up. Probably not worth it.

My 2 cents get it done in Australia as it will save space and also trying to get back to the same person for a fitting and all that. Just do it in Australia
