Hi All.

Have decided to go the big burn, while I have 14 months before WP drops down to SG.

My partner hasn’t experienced first lounges, so I want to treat her to a 2-3wk long trip, with all long haul in J.

We both love all things Japan, particularly food/sake, so this destination is a must, as is sharing with her HKG Pier lounge is also a must. Wouldn’t mind also taking her to Europe.

Is 600,000 points and 14 months WP left, in order to book seats while available, feasible for something like SYD/MEL-HKG-NRT-LHR-HKG-TPE-HKG-MEL in J on QF/CX metal?

Any tips/feedback, or even completely different suggestions, such as around the world booking, would be a big help... I struggle making my mind up at McDonalds drive thru let alone dumping years and years of points in one fell swoop.

What would you do in my shoes?

Should you need to reduce your flying, you could buy 10 or more toasters, perhaps as Christmas presents, from the QF store for those points. :p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm your second cousin aren't I? QF just loves facilitating family transfers... :p.

Seriously, though, just blow it big-time while you still have WP leverage. But try to max out on two 280K OneWorld Awards - even if you just spend the second part flying in order to experience lounges and different airlines/lounges. Hard work to set up, but could be made utterly memorable with effort.

Make sure to aim for QR Qsuites on a decent long flight - eg. LAX-DOH, EZE-DOH. Phwoar!... That'll certainly keep Partner eddie 73 happy!

Cheers @JohnM appreciate the suggestion, that 280K OWA sounds like the way to go, as suggested by @Hvr I've got a bit of reading to do!

@eddie 73 I suggest that you start asap to prepare for your 280 OWA x 2. It will be a fair bit of work and you would need to book a year in advance to get a good itinerary. Aim to have a long haul segment with Qatar on their Qsuit.

Thanks @Longtoo in my 20 years of regular travel, intl legs only even on CX/QF and yours is the 2nd recommendation here for the Qsuit so I'll make it my mission to include. An American mate of mine always comes down under on Qatar so I'm guessing Qsuite is best on a return leg from North America?

Now I'm thinking something like MEL/SYD-HKG-NRT/HND-Europe-North America-Home.

If you forsee a reasonable increase in point earn before then and don't have an immediate need to travel sooner, consider 2x 420k F awards.

Something like SYD-HKG-HND-LHR-(wherever in the USA)-LAX-SYD can be done with the long hauls in F. QF, CX, JL, BA are doable. Or even come home from the US via HKG or NRT if the 35k mileage allows. You'd want to have a very good idea of where you want to go first...

Thanks @Kangol was toying with this on the calculator today, it is tempting but I’m unlikely to remain WP after this year - and want the other half to enjoy some flounge action. If however I can work out some decent status runs exHKG or DPS for about $3/sc, I may push the entire plan out further and go for the 2x420.

Check MH ex DPS for decent status runs.

You also might want to make sure you have a few thousand points left over for changes.
You might find a better flight or better time.
Changes cost 5000 (I believe )
Have an amazing time

Thanks @mrsterryn good tip. Now @jase05 has me costing up purchasing 150K points at $3.7k, and working out if building another 140K through other methods, to go all out for 2x420K.

If your credit is good, you could easily apply for 3 credits cards with sign-on bonuses to earn the 240k points you are short for the 2*420k F tix. Will cost less than $3.7k, as there are several cards offering 100k sign on bonus for $4k of normal spend (some card have annual fees so are waived). You can cancel the unneeded cards after the sign-on bonus is deposited in your QFF account.

Thanks @Lynda2475 have thought about this, it is tempting but due to Scomo’s win I may lean towards preserving the good Veda rating. Hmm, decisions.
