Just want to let everyone know a "win" I had trying to change a "sale fare" return ticket booked in D class originating from Paris to Melbourne.
These fares, come up every now and then. I know another person had the same issue trying to change the dates, as these tickets (business lite) only allow date change (with fare diff) but not cancellations.
I got a redemption flight to Europe Aug 2022, and hence purchased this flight as my return leg back to Melbourne, as well using it as a positioning flight for another European trip in 2023.
Although some of this might sound straight forward, but the Singapore call center was just giving me the run around over the past few month, so I decided to finally block out the afternoon and get the cough sorted.
The issue was the operator, was telling me incorrect information around the restrictions, which was resulting in the huge cost to change the flights.
Call 1-Change date to Aug 2023 $1500aud
Call 2-Change date to Aug 2023 $2500euro/$5000+ aud
Call 3-Your ticket was purchased in Feb 2022, we can't change it to Aug 2023 (over 365 days validity)
Call 4-When changing ticket, we can not book you into the same D cabin class, instead its booked into the Flexi Z class which is why it costs more
Call 5-Fixed
So for anyone who is in this situation, not all operators are trained the same. What I did was, i had to use expert flyer (pay premium/pro for the month) and try to find exactly how many D class seats are available for a particular flight.
From there make sure the operator does a direct change for that exact flight.
If the operator won't do this for you, or is booking you into a higher cabin class, hang up and call back. Unfortunately just luck have it, each time i called back i got the same staff 3 times.
Finally, an operator was able to change the flight directly to the one I asked for, and took my payment.
Total time this afternoon 2.30 hours
Change cost $61euros
Hopefully that helps and save everyone a couple of hours
