Study Says Sydney Airport Reach Capacity by 2025

The Commonwealth Bank analysts, Andre Fromyhr and Matt Crowe, assessed how long it would be before the airport was unable to handle more planes and passengers without building a new runway or terminal.

''By our passenger forecasts, Sydney will reach 61 per cent more passenger volume in 2025,'' the analysts said. Which is 20 years earlier than the airport's forecast of 2045.

The analysis is considered a boost for supporters of a Second Sydney Airport which includes Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Anthony Albanese and a study commisioned by him on the proposed site Wilton which is 80km from Sydney's CBD is scheduled to be released early this year.

Alan's Note: Personally I would say make an airport as long as all Internatinal flights are moved there and state of the art like other south east asian airports.

Don't mind.

However, a new airport to replace the current one might be more appropriate, just wont happen.

This is a rehash of a topic from back a little while ago.

Would be interesting as that is only about 12 years to go and at the rate that Govt do anything probably 2045 will be a more reasonable time line for new airport to come on line.

The study is obviously garbage. Both Macquarie Airport and the NSW Premier say it will go well beyond that date.:shock:

Most cities which have more than one airport wish they only had one proper one. Why create such a nuisance solution? It's a hassle for the passengers and I bet also a logistical nightmare for the airlines involved. Build a complete new one out of Sydney somewhere and connect it properly with a high speed train and motorway. Or just stick to the old one and extend it as much as you can- fourth runway anyone?

Remove the movement cap and the noise sharing and buy a few more decades

Land acquisition, add another runway, second intl terminal, third domestic. Move QF into the new domestic terminal, Virgin takes over T2 and direct all regional and JQ into T3.

Big dream and will never happen but that does allow nice expansion and development of SYD into a state of the art airport and handle a vastly greater volume of traffic.
