Strategy to obtain US Amex

Firstly, does the $140 include Australian GST? Quite a few of the US mail forwarders collect Australian GST on items shipped to Australia.

Secondly in relation to whether it will be cheaper elsewhere, of course it will be. I don’t see USGM as a parcel forwarder. They’re good for mail, but they are not for parcels. I’ve also found some of the USGM FedEx alternatives to be far cheaper than USPS (and arguably more reliable).

I have used CGW for parcels. I am sure there are better parcel forwarding services out there and CGW is not the cheapest, although it is cheaper than USGM in my experience.

EDIT: just had a look at USGM cost to send one letter I have sitting there to Australia. USPS First Class is $5, FedEx International Connect is $58, other FedEx options are $78-84, USPS Priority Mail is $116.
What is CGW for parcels please?

$140 inclusive GST but item value is $600 only

Also, when you buy something you sent directly to CGM without issue?

Once I purchased Dell and have it sent to myUS and my order got cancelled and I had to have it sent to USGM.

Comgateway. Some vendors may have an issue with it but none of mine have to date.

So that means the shipping is $80 (plus $60 GST). Have you tried the other options USGM are offering? Based on my post, there should be some cheaper options on USGM.

1099

What are you doing with those 1099 form please?

The one I got $140US was the cheapest that I can have with tracking.

I lost some letter that got my CC before when I choose the cheapest without tracking with USPS so I avoided that

Filling it out and lodging it with the IRS.

Could you send it from USGM onto another US parcel forwarder who is cheaper and then have them send to Australia? If not, looks like you’re paying $140.

FYI

Citi Strata Elite 4 AA lounge passes could be given away. The recipient just scan the pass to get in without card holder.

I gave away my pass successfully

There is a NLL link floating around for the Amex BBP 6K spend for 75K. Apparently its not gate kept when you try to apply via an incognito browser.

correct me if I'm wrong - even though this earns MR points but it doesn't fall under the charge card category? I currently have 5 non charge cards which means I'll not get approved for this unless I close one of the cards?

It still falls under CC. So you'll need to close a card.

Recieved the HSBC debit card and it included a request to complete and send back the W-8BEN form.. I've read that some people ignored this but my plan is to apply for a HSBC CC in the future. Should I ignore this?
I'm also looking into applying for an ITIN in the near future too

Went the double barrel Marriott this week and product changed to the Bonvoy Brilliant and Ritz Carlton card. The 35k certificates with 15k top up don't cut it anymore and everything seems to be 52,000 plus.

Okay, looks like a HSBC US statement still works as a proof of address for both Amex and Chase cards. They both recognise HSBC as a legit bank and thus it is an acceptable document.

We will see what the future of HSBC retail banking looks like in Australia so better get in quick.

Im set for the next 6 months in terms of spend towards the SUBs. Pretty good time to do it with the 24 month waiting period of AU Credit Card SUBs these days.

I've applied for an Ink Preferred - I had a "you're already approved" offer in Chase online banking. I couldn't proceed with that offer as I have an ITIN rather than a SSN. They now want me to sign a W9 which I understand from AI it is a tax form which effectively says you are a resident so then all your global income is taxed by the IRS (on top of the up to 50% tax in AU by the ATO). I think this will likely outweigh the value of the points for many of us by a large margin.

What are others' experiences with Chase Inks. How do you get to "yes" without signing one of these forms?

FWIW I applied without a VPN to mask my AU IP. IME, they tend to lock all your accounts for suspected fraud if you use a VPN - I'm starting to think a VPN subscription isn't a very good use of money ...

Fairly sure you don't need a W9. You can ask them to verify your ITIN over the phone without the W9. You can also explicit tell them that your a Non-Resident Alien and you would like to submit a W8-BEN form but that would probably slow down the process.

Speak to fraud department as they are much more familiar with ITIN and not needing a W9 - I didnt get requested for mine but have seen multiple DP that is who to speak to

Amex GT DP:

AUS Plat holder, applied for Green online, no ITIN, no proof of address requested. Basically instant approval, except I did have to call as I didn't receive the SMS code to authenticate (option to choose this or AUS Amex CVV to verify).

On the phone, the agent just verified my personal details and said GT was successful and had to call another team to push the app through. Able to instantly register for online account but unable to add to digital wallet - wonder if instant card may have worked if passed online auth. Card dispatched via USPS 2-3 days later.

Deciding whether should bother waiting 10 days to ask if they can send it here or just get mailbox to courier it.
