Strategy to obtain US Amex

Hi everyone, question around your proof of address for your first GT if asked. Has anyone tried to use a Wise Statement in combination with an ITIN letter which has your US address on it? Not using the ITIN for the GT obviously, but wondering if that letter in conjunction with a Wise statement would actually suffice? Would save me a bit of hassle having to go down the HSBC route! Thanks all.
If they ask for address verification (which is more likely than not), then they will ask for one of the following:
1. Current Cable/Internet Bill
2. Current Cell Phone Statement
3. Current Credit Card Statement
4. Current Financial Institution Statement
5. Current Home Owner's Insurance/Mortgage Statement
6. Current Utility Bill

From recent DPs, Wise doesn’t seem to be accepted anymore but could be wrong. Your statement also needs to cover a period of at least 30 days.

If you have a US bank account, you can do a 3 way call with the bank verifying your address instead (although that doesn’t work with HSBC anymore).

Thank you for this - I may have revert back to obtaining a US bank account. Preference was to avoid the HSBC route, but I'm also not going to the US anytime soon, so it is probably my only choice.

Following up on this newbie DP:
8. Called Amex up to have a replacement card shipped to Australia 10 days after approval. I didn’t have any US-issued ID so had to verify my passport over NotaryCam (waited a few more days to get an appointment).
9. Called Amex again 2 business days after NotaryCam verification and they finally approved to mail the card overseas. Gave them my Australian address over the phone.
10. Received the physical card via DHL 3 days after the call.

This whole GT process easily took ~2 months for me from beginning (reactivating my old HSBC AU account) to end (finally receiving the U.S. Amex card). Next steps: Get an SSN once I move over to the U.S. and wait 6 months to generate a FICO score…
I will be following your footsteps later this year. :)

Does anyone hold more than one or two Aspire Card?
Thinking to hold 3 of them at the same time, if can cash the resort and flight credit, it is literally free credit card but came with multiple FN each year

I did. Amex didn't accept it

That’s great, thanks for the insight! What did you end up doing if you don’t mind me asking?
I still havent got anywhere with Amex yet myself because of those. However after that I did GT and submitted US HSBC statement then they asked IRS forms and kept insisting on that form. I gave up, but did same GT for P2 and got instant approval, Card is in the mail. I then applied for Cap1 and got it with my ITIN to build credit history though - 3 months down, 3 more months then I will apply something else with Cap1.

I was able to get it approved with my (basically empty) wise statement July last year. Seems to depend on the rep

Not sure who to write to, but I think it owuld be a good idea to create a new post about using your US amex card - not just how to obtain one now given the number of people who have already utilised this strategy.

Anyway, how does everyone use their $200 dell credits? I have 2x biz plats with nothing to use them on and have a month to do so

Yesterday I tossed the 125,000 point offer for an Amex Platinum card. The gold card works fine. We have Citi AA and Chase credit cards all of which go on auto pay. I have seen a 150,000 Amex offer so maybe I should call them.
Mrscove will go for a Macy’s Amex this trip as she found her Social Security card number. Her old card expired during Covid times.

Hi All,
I sharing my first chase card application expereience, and hoping someone could enlighten me from here please.
Background: 6 years credit history, 7 amex cards, recently approved ITIN, FICO 776
I applied for Chase aeroplan card on 11th May, first time using itin to apply for credit card.
Called chase next day and was told the application was declined, I insisted for a review and was then transferred to recon team (fraud dep). I have been requested to provide below docs:
  • A copy of your social security card - supplied ITIN letter
  • Unverified or missing date of birth. please provide proof of date of birth - supplied photo of passport
  • Proof of current physical address (e.g. utility bill, government issued id) - supply Amex statement x 2
Then I called on 15th May& 17th May, and in both occasions I was told that I will receive a letter in mail advising me result of my application. I wonder if there is still change for a card approval here, and what should be my next move? Thank you all.
A quick update here.
Its been 2 weeks since I was told that the application result would be mailed to me in 1~2 weeks. Unfortunately, no mail was received at my address, I called back today 1st rep told me the application was declined and I would have to either go to the branch or re-apply. 2nd rep told me I have to wait for the mail, and lodge request to send me the mail again.
I wonder if anyone had a similar experience here by any chance, not sure if I should give up now..😂
Amex biz gold was approved last week, must easy process..

My P2 was asked to fill in a 4506C for amex (gives them access to my tax return). Anyone had this? I assume I would just need to wait 3 months or so now :(

3 months is probably the safest option. You could try sooner (eg 1 month), but if you get a 4506c for that application, it sets you back another month. From what I've read, it isn't a permanent flag on your account — you can still get a new card without the form, but you do need to wait some period of time for the 4506c flag to be removed. Applying for another card now will get the same request.

I thought so.

Maybe I'll put some more volume on P1's only card :(

I learned this the hard way - I was requested for that form and submitted got rejected and applied again and again - all rejected. Wish I saw this earlier
