Strategy to obtain US Amex

I have my residential as my myUS address and my mailing as a US mail forwarder. The residential address listed on my file was the US mail forwarder in TX
Oh yeah ! Same as me lol......But the credit reporting agencies should be listing all your addresses anyway. (Both past and present, both mailing and residential) I don't think it will be a big problem. You should be ok in the long run.

Hi guys, I am travelling to LA next week for a couple of days.. last minute.

I am thinking I should open a few bank accounts whilst I am there as I've read here that you can only open some in person and also this may help getting credit cards down the line?

Which banks do you recommend I open accounts with and what info/docs will I need to open them? I am assuming passport and drivers license at a minimum?

Should I print and bring a proof an address i.e. a statement from my AMEX, HSBC, C1 accounts?

Is there anything else I should do whilst in the states to further my credit card churning ambitions?

TIA

Go open accounts with Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

Yeah, bring all those docs.
And open accounts with Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. (Don't forget to deposit money in them too. Enough to avoid the monthly fees)

Don't forget to book online appointments with a banker before you goto a branch too.
Good luck and please report back !

Hi everyone, had the wife do a GT and they need a statement confirming her name. Been at a stand still for a month now, the agent has said they won't accept a WISE statement. Are there any other quick options? Otherwise would have to go down the route of HSBC Premier

Thanks. So during the bank account setup appointment do I declare that I am a non-us citizen. Should I say I travel to the states regularly for work? Or what should I say I require the bank accounts for? thanks

I was also wondering do I need to money ready to go into the account the day it opens or do I have a period of time after to transfer the cash in? thanks

Sorry for the late reply.
Yes, just tell them that you are a non resident alien, and you plan to open a bank account coz you are thinking of studying in USA/Investing in a home/Shares etc in the future.

With regards to depositing money, most people will do it on the same day just to get it over and be done with. But i can't see any problems if you decide to deposit the money a few days/Weeks later.

Hey All,

I currently have a Marriott Bonvoy card through the global transfer
Is there a way to get a Hilton card in a easier method or just the same method?

You can’t normally apply for more than 1 card through GT, although there are exceptions. If you have a FICO score, then the future cards don’t need to go via GT route.

Remember to use the personal referral link from someone around here, friend or family member, if/when you do.

Is this a common issue from people’s experiences here ?

I was planning on just doing WISE, but if the address confirmation is a problem, perhaps I should get HSBC going…

If my wife is an additional cardholder on my Au Platinum, will this stop her applying for a card in her own name ?

And can I be extra cheeky and refer her ?!

How do j get a fico
When I go to the portal it doesn’t load.

I assume it wouldn’t be possible for a relative in the US to open a checking account on my behalf ?

It’s not the first time that this has been raised. ;)

See post 6,893 as well, on 9.2.24. Or just type FICO in the AFF search bar 🤣
I guess a more reliable question would be is it possible to get another Amex while already being in the US System? ive had my card for over a year now. So looking for advice and a little lost.

I dont have any SSN or ITIN i dont believe.

Like I can’t find the link but I get

Hi guys, travelling to LAX tomorrow for a few days in LA. Have bank appointments arranged with Chase, BOFA & Wells Fargo.

Was wondering has anyone used their Tello service whilst in the states? I believe the service only provides wifi calling so its not much use whilst out and about. I am wondering should I grab a local sim card to use when out and about in LA and if anyone has a recommendation? Can i just grab one at the airport like in most airports?

Edit: Actually I think my tello plan incudes 100 mins and 1gb of data so hopefully that simply works when I arrive..

However is it worthwhile me grabbing a t-mobile or other cheap sim which might have better reliability for using as verification texts etc for all banks when I am the in states?

thanks

Tello is an MVNO on the t-mobile network so in terms of reliability it should be on par with a t-mobile sim.

Godspeed buddy.

I would be great to hear your experience as I will be probably doing the same in a couple of months

MsProzac, living in US, applied for a card a few months back and got knocked back. She has a bank account and thinks she will try again after she submits her tax return soon.
I was thinking she should go for a Amex Green card first. Then a premium next. Where are the best Green offers atm?
