Strategy to obtain US Amex

Amex OTP doesn't seem to show up on Google Voice when trying to deal with live chat or call centre agents. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Is TextNow any better?

Did someone post this on reddit? :D

Keep calling until you get someone willing to help!
Guilty as charged!! After several phone calls it's been quite frustrating dealing with their customer service and even after escalating to supervisors in multiple departments being told the only way to create online account is to visit a branch. I've obtained a phone number off reddit which should enable me to request "expert authentication" and if that fails the next step after is the executive office number. I know patience and lots of HUCA is key in this game so I have no choice but to keep trying until someone has the authority to do it. I can still make payments with my card and my account itself has not been flagged for fraud so that's a positive. I've also heard that using VPN to setup online account can cause a red flag so that might have been a mistake on my behalf.

For those of you who have Chase or Bank of America checking accounts, do you log in by using a VPN in Australia? Or better if you don't do that, in case you get flagged by the fraud department?

Yes, not sure of the level of risk in Australia as I've never tried.

One thing to be aware of is that particular purchase amounts should be avoided. In the US, $505.95 should be avoided even at retailers that don't pass on L3 data because that looks like a $500 gift card + Visa/MC activation fee to Amex.

So mix it in with a regular grocery spend if you're going to do it.
I've bought tons (A$15k+) of open loop GC across my 4-5 amex in past 1 year from Coles, Wool, online etc and everything has been fine so far...no issues in getting in SUB or the FNC which come after 15k annual spend on Hilton and Marriott cards...

Open loop: can be used anywhere (eg Visa/Mastercard GCs)
Closed loop: can only be used at select retailers (eg WW/Coles GCs)
I don't use a VPN to log into internet banking on Chase, Amex, B of A and Barclays, never had an issue.

2 years ago I used a Hilton Amex to buy Coles Mastercards becuase I had a minimum spend to make and my mechanic didn't take Amex for car repairs and there was no problem.

for Amex Biz Gold has anyone tried buying a GC at officedepot to trigger the monthly $20 credit?
Having failed couple of times at Staples, I'm thinking to try Office depot by buying a $20 Uber GC...have a trip later this year....so thinking to collect US$20 for next few months and load up Uber US account...

Not sure whether this will trigger the CB...as the web site is giftcard+OD...instead of just OD....

GC at OD will not trigger (I tried with Airbnb).

Staples doesn't like me. I have tried but cancelled everytime. I think coz I'm new to the system. I spoke to different people and they all said I need to come to the store. I know @levelnine had success though but maybe he already had an account with staples

I had success with a brand new Staples account. I did use a VPN, but other than that didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Might be worth trying again with a different new account and VPN.

Just to follow up: I finally managed to get an online account setup after more than a few failed attempts. I called the number I obtained from a reddit post and was connected with an online technical specialist who simply asked what username I'd like to use and then set up a password which I was able to change online and then I logged in without issue. A little patience and HUCA has worked again! On a separate note I did have a largish payment of $950 declined and Chase rep stated that it was declined because the merchant needed to ask for extra ID? I tried to pay with the Chase card using Apple pay which I'd done successfully for smaller purchases. There are no 'flags' on my account but I still have no idea what that meant and whether I should try the physical card next time.

I'll have to try again with a VPN. They do ask for a phone number and I hope they haven't black listed it yet 😔

Glad to hear it worked out!!

GCs at staple to trigger monthly credit on Gold Biz?

Sidenote, does anyone have experience regarding Chase statuses? Applied for CIC and originally it was 7-10 days. Now it's 30 days....

Edit: Went back to 7-10 days...

Yes, that's what I'm using the credit for.

I applied for another Ink Unlimited on Tuesday. Got 7-10 days. Called in and they pushed the application through over the phone — was just the standard fraud/ID check.
Tried again with staples. Simple decline with vpn and new number. I give up
One additional thought if you want to try again. It might be your billing address — if you're using a mail forwarder, that might be triggering a fraud alert. Generally the only thing the card processors check is the ZIP code, so you could put a real home address that has the same ZIP code as your mail forwarder.

Thanks. I tried putting in a different address where I know it is a residential, but it said I had to use the billing address on my card.

While I am typing this, they probably don't know the full billing address, but they probably know the zip code attached to the card only. I will try again on another with VPN and report back

Took the courage to call up and they wanted a W-9 form to confirm my ITIN as there was some discrepancy between my credit report data on my ITIN and info I provided. I'm guessing maybe my address change? All sorted, they asked me to confirm my ITIN over the phone. Approved for CIC with only a 3K limit so it's a bit dire for big spends but I'm sure I'll make it work.

If you have any other business cards with excess credit limit, you can transfer it to your new card by secure message.
Given that they've only given my 3K does this mean I'm close to my Chase limit for future cards? I did recall reading that Chase will only extend 50% of your income?

I currently have 3 cards with chase:

CIP - 5K
CSP - 8.7K
CIC - 3K
