Strategy to obtain US Amex

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Someone in this thread tried to apply for a Amex GT with a Skype US number, and said this failed because Amex recognised the Skype number as a VOIP number.

I have no knowledge of Google Fi, but I know Google Voice requires a real US number to be able to use it, I suspect Google Fi must be similar.

Everyone is recommending TextNow here, are you sure this works, because last time I tried, you need an existing US number to get a TextNow US number.
I have always used a basic text now number for applications even long after I no longer have access to it . Always works . Never have to receive calls as I always call in .

Tried to register for TextNow, without a VPN I get blocked because the service is not available outside the US. With a VPN in the US I get banned because of violation of terms and conditions. The people here that have TextNow working with a US number, must be old customers, not new ones? Or is TextNow recognising my device and messing with me?

Here are some general guidelines for applying with GT:

1. Prepare US proof of address and US phone numbers before applying for GT.

2. In most instances you will be approved without further documentation or additional requirements.

3. If additional documents are required, provide them as you have prepared them.

4. If you have not prepared them, wait for the application to lapse then wait 30 days from the lapse date onwards to reapply.

No one here can guarantee that everything will be smooth sailing and you won't encounter any hiccups. Many of us have navigated through them with the help of those on here but based on the 300+ pages, trouble free applications is usually not the norm. Always expect something.

Hi I was wondering is it possible to transfer USA AMEX MR points to a krisflyer account in your partners name if they have taken out an additional card under your AMEX GT?

I know that typically, when transferring points out of Amex account it restricts transfers to an account not in your name...

Just tried changing address to Australia and adding an additional card member. Online chat told me they can't process it as first additional card has to be sent to the domestic address. Is this correct? They did suggest speaking to the 'card replacement team' about getting cards sent internationally..

By domestic add they might mean main card holders which can be international .

First I’m hearing of this . Have you tried applying online without speaking to online chat ? Don’t you have an address in the US ?

I have only tried via online chat. I'll try online instead. I was using online chat anyway to change the addresses, both home and mailing address to my Australian addresses.

Yeah I have an address in the US, I use a friend's address.

You can have the au sent to you friends add and have her send you a pic . Should be able to have a replacement card sent to oz after 10 days.

Yeah I'll do this thanks. Was wondering what does AU stand for? Additional user?

And you said above that it takes 3 months before we can transfer points into an additional card members account?

Thanks

For anyone churning Amex Biz Plats, make a note to apply for one in December to access the triple dip. I've just completed one, so let me explain how it works.

1. Apply for an Amex Biz Plat in late November/December.
2. Chat with Amex to move the closing date of your first statement to late December (not necessary, but helps).
3. Enroll in Amex credits. Use the Dell & airline credits. I purchase things like headphones from Dell for resale & use United TravelBank for the airline credits.
4. In the following year, use the Dell & airline credits again.
5. Your second annual fee will be charged 12 months from your first statement closing date.
6. In the following year, use the Dell & airline credits again then close the card within 30 days of that second annual fee to get a full refund.

That means for one $695 annual fee, you get $1400 in credits: $800 in Dell credits (4*$200) and $600 in airline credits (3*$200). Not bad when it also comes with 150K+ MR.

Why not do this with every Amex card with credits, not only the Biz one?
Does this work with the Australian Amex Platinum card, or does the Australian version use a different credit system? (aniversary year instead of calendar year)

Also, in your example, can you sign up for the Amex Biz Plat again in December of the same year you cancelled it in January/February, and redo the triple dip without missing a year?

Biz Plat has the best credits that reset every calendar year. But you can do it with other Amexes.

Australian Amex cards aren't churnable like US Amex cards are, so not worth it.

You can sign up for a new Biz Plat every 90 days. But always good to time the one you sign up for in the fourth quarter to make use of the triple dip.

Putting churning aside, what about solely triple dipping? Can you triple dip with the Australian Amex cards, like you can with the American card? Correct me if wrong, but the Australian version has calendar year reset only for the dining credits?

The point of a triple dip is to get 3x annual credits for 1x annual fee, so it only makes sense as a concept if you are churning.

Depends how you define churning, I thought churning meant cancelling a card and reapplying to get the sign up bonus again. But if you mean churning as cancelling the card and reapplying, even without sign up bonus again, what's wrong with doing that with the Australian card? I don't see anything in Australia about not being able to reapply for the Platinum card after using all the credits and cancelling it?

I have no interest in signing up for cards without a sign-up bonus. The return on spend is too marginal for me to bother, but I'm sure you could try it in Australia if you really wanted.
