Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it some thought. I'm sure I can use the "dining credits" to cover some $$ I would've spent on dining out anyway. Might give this some thought before jumping at it if there aren't likely to be much in the way of upgrades given Platinum sounds almost as plentiful as Gold.
By all means Platinum is huge step up from Gold (Lounge, breakfast, late check out).

Suite upgrades are just a bit more rare in my experience, most of the time it’s just higher floor or slightly larger rooms.

Also, Japan sees crazy elite numbers

Based on this comment I'm guessing you got your Gold Bus approved? I just applied and have been asked to call in. When I check the verification tool online it said:

"Have the following information ready when you call:
HOME ADDRESS"

Just a simple address verification?

Applied for the 150k bonus with 10K spend in 3 months. Unsure whether I'll be able to hit but lets give it a go...
Yes, the Gold Biz went through...Same offer as yours...I submitted a copy of passport and ITIN...took them more than 7-8 Biz days to approve...but no dramas...

If you manage to get approved and don't mind juggling a few extra cards, apply for two $0 (not the $50) employee cards using this link: Offer Incentive | American Express US

Each employee card earns 15K MR after $4K spend. It stacks with the sign-up bonus. So put $2K on your main card, $4K on employee 1's card, $4K on employee 2's card & you'll earn 180KMR in total.

You can put yourself down as an employee.
Fantastic! Just requested 2 employee cards...Hope no dramas when activating them.

"In order to use the Employee Card to make purchases, you or your employee will need to provide the employee's Residential Address, Social Security Number, and Date of Birth when confirming the Employee Card."

There is about a 50% chance you'll be able to use the card without activating (ie it'll come pre-activated) and will auto close after 60 days if you don't provide a SSN.

If that doesn't happen and you are forced to activate to use the card, you can call up and add your ITIN/passport in lieu of a SSN.

Thanks for the DP. I'm hoping my different address on my ITIN won't cause any issues.

Is there a wiki or quick guide for obtaining a US Amex Green card? The thread is 319 pages long and I’m sure some things have change since the beginning

Unfortunately not, most of us have invested a lot of time in getting our head around and reading through not 300 but a lot of pages....watching/reading US blogs, videos. some hit & trail. etc...

Since its almost Xmas, As a starting point -
* Do you currently hold an AU issued AMEX for more than 6 months?
If yes -
* Get a US phone#. I use Tello(Pay US$5.5/mo), some use Talkatone and Google Voice (US) etc.
* Get a US address proof. Easiest way would be to get an address from a mail forwarder like myus (offers free subscription). use this address with HSBC to open a HSBC checking account in US.
* Opening a checking account with HSBC US also has few steps...search the thread using these keywords and you would be on your way.....

If you have an existing SSN or ITIN + existing US credit history then the pathway will be different

Use your at least 3 month old Aus or country Amex to apply for the green card using global transfer . Use a us adddress . If it’s your first us card it’s advisable to choose a fee free option like everyday so you can keep it forever .

For those of you with HSBC Premier that have opened a US account to support your US credit card strategy ......

When you change the address on the US account to a US address, for proof of address, do you change the Home address or the Postal address. Could you then confirm that this is the address that prints out on a Statement that you then use as 'proof of address'.

I'm assuming it's the postal address because, presumably, the Home address has to be linked to the account in Australia to retain the Premier status on both accounts?? Or am I thinking too hard about this ..... 😁 ;) ?

Looks like I was two years too late. I've read that HSBC has sold a lot of their stuff in the USA, but their website still looks like it works as you would expect. Can you still open an HSBC checking account with Australia premier status? Can you still get an RM to somehow get you an HSBC world credit card in US?

Sorry, but I did type "HSBC Premier credit card" into the search and didn't see an obviously conclusive answer.

Approved a few minutes ago! Lets see how the delivery process goes 😒

Edit: I have noticed that there is no Apt or Ste number attached to the delivery address on the website. As per my previous experiences, first class mail via Amex never include my ste/apt number and hence never get delivered :(

A few people have done it up-thread in the last six months or so I'd say; not sure about the credit card

Also, mail needs to be courier-delivered. Most courier-delivered letters will be okay, but not ordinary mail through the USPS, certainly at MyUS. The odd USPS letter may get through but not often. USPS usually equates to a big fail

Planetexpress will accept letters from USPS for me since I've authorised them to but I don't think I've ever received anything from Amex that wasn't couriered. Chase has been ok most of the time.

DP, I purchased some wine from qantas store and did not receive the $50 statement credit on my Amex Hilton Aspire.

It is charged as Qantas Loyalty.

Yep. I wonder when that change happened since earlier this year I had QF wine post as Qantas Mascot like flights.

20% transfer bonus Chase to Aeroplan.

Makes Australia - US flights in Polaris 62.5K one way. Highway robbery lol.

I am considering going to the US just to open bank accounts with Citi, Wells, chase, etc

Has anybody done this and am I crazy?

I have opened a Amex and C1 checking account, but everything else seems impossible to open from Australia. The main reason would be to increase likelihood of getting credit cards approved

Interesting with planetexpress. I currently use MyUS but the mailing address for everything is US global mail so they can scan everything for me
