Strategy to obtain US Amex

How did some of you manage to successfully apply for the AMEX checking account ? I tried opening one 7 months ago, and sent in the required docs and still failed. (I already have an Aspire card with them for 10 months too at that time !)
it was pretty straight forward, I was instantly approved...no docs required...
I'll suggest instead go for the Amex Biz checking account currently offering 50k MR points...if you are ok with the SUB requirements specially this one - Maintain an average account balance of $5,000 for the next 60 days

Wow, did you have an ITIN and a US Amex card when you applied for the checking account ?
Thank you for the tip re the business checking account :)

Yes mine came in too!

Any more of these deals out there where we can apply for ITIN and don't need to go to a branch? I called chase and it's only in a branch
I'm making my own little list becuase I'm using my brothers SSN.

I'm not sure of the current limitations to the SSN vs TIN, but yes, some banks are heavily strict and so require your attendance but knowing how strict Chase is; I'm a keep this one open since I opened it here.

Don't do U.S Bank, they told me you need to go in and provide your TIN, so not sure if that same applies outside of providing it on signup.

I think it's really going to be a test to see who accepts it and who doesn't becuase my focus is going to be aiming to get bank bonuses.

Try one called "Majority". It does allow you to select no SSN/ITIN but I think monthly cost is about $6.

Thanks - I already have 1 US account so only really looking at others to collect the potential welcome bonuses.

But you also need a US Number and Google Voice won't work.

Hmm, all the ones I've opened have been me currently being based in the US. But take heed, example, Chase on the $200 I made, $48 was withheld.

So if you're looking at accounts which I suspect there are very few that will allow you to open them without an ITIN, then you're have to factor that in also.

Once you've got an ITIN, it'll be much easier to open accounts, maybe compile a list from searches to see which ones you can opt in for vs the ones you cannot.

Most banks will allow you to open them based on a Passport, but usually you would need to go into the branch, I've seen a few like this where they do ask for a drivers license, BluPeak is one of them. You can take screenshots and send them in as you go, but whether they'd classify an international license as valid, and I suspect they won't, then you may want to consider a skip.

I found it possible to open accounts with ITIN though have had a mixed result. C1 for instance has frozen my accounts, they've awarded $350 SUB but frozen my account as for an undisclosed reason, they don't want me as a customer. They were going to post me a cheque, I asked them to direct deposit it into another account I have with HSBC US and they called with me on the line to verify ownership several weeks ago but nothing has happened. Assuming the $350 SUB will be withheld if they ever do give my $$ back. Anyone else had this happen to them?

My checking account with them is frozen as I can’t authenticate myself .

Have just been approved for a Citi premier card . It will be sent to my planet express address . Does anyone have any experience with calling Citi and letting them know one is travelling and requesting. Card be sent to oz ? Or will that throw up a red flag ?
