Strategy to obtain US Amex

Agreed, the main reason for me to get this card is the Marriott Platinum Status. I have Hilton Diamond and never receive a suite upgrade on my stayed.
I have the Aspire because I can't be bothered maintaining status. Since getting Diamond I’ve had great experiences with suite upgrades OS (Conrad’s in Bali + Manila, Hilton in Podgorica and HGI in Tirana). In Aust I usually only end up in an Exec room of some sort. Given I only ever book the cheapest room I’m ok with this.

I also have Platinum with Accor and do a solid 50-60 nights a year with them and find the upgrades less generous at their nice hotels (but good at midrange, who wants a spa suite at a Mercure tho)

As an update, faxed those bank statements through to Chase, used my Wise bank statements.

For a while the automated status number gave me a 2 week update period. However, in the last couple of days, it’s reverted to a 7-10 days update period. Looks like another call is on the cards.
Did you end up getting anywhere with this?

Inks are infinitely churnable. Main thing you need to do is obey the informal velocity limit (no more than 1 new Chase card — personal or business — every 90 days) and the informal credit limit cap (no more than 50% of reported income — need to reduce credit limits if you reach that limit).

Do you have SSN? Chase kept giving me a hard time using ITIN to apply for a business card, only 1 successful business card so far and I'm a bit worried applying again.

Surprised you didn't get the pop-up with the referral. I've found Amex very tight with these recent personal card offers — very hard to get through without a pop-up.

I was a bit worried since I just applied for the Gold a few weeks back. Maybe they don't hate me that much. I applied only 1-2 per year (0 in 2019 and 2020) and past 7 years I applied for 9 cards and only cancelled one so far.

My experienced with Hilton are mostly in the US, that's probably why. I've heard they are stingy with the upgrade for Hilton Diamond in the US properties.

Probably the state of hotel status in the US now, people over there get surprised with upgrades.

While overseas it is more frequent.

Just got approved for second Amex (Green) via GT. Interestingly was having lots of trouble using global transfer via my UK amex with them asking for tax returns and address confirmation but logged in through my old Amex Aus account and applied through there. Got approved straightaway despite my card being cancelled.

Card got sent through myUS but never arrived in the mailbox. Got Amex to send me a new card to my UK address. Again minimal hassle and arrived in 2 days!

How far apart from your 1st to 2nd GT approval?
So you used your 1st GT via UK Amex & 2nd GT via AU Amex?

I've heard Hyatt Globalist (top tier) comes with the best perks. Maybe if they run a status match or 20 nights challenge to Globalist again, I might sign up for it and book $29 a night x 20 at Hyatt Excalibur Las Vegas.

Did you miss the Bilt status challenge? Was quite lucrative.

Unfortunately a lot of hotels don't take kindly to status runs. Most require your physical presence to check in, at least at some point in the stay, otherwise they'll check you out and register you as a no show. And most cheap hotels sell out quickly during status challenges.

What do you mean by hard time? Chase's application process can be more difficult and erratic, but once you know its quirks, I find it more consistent than Amex. Especially as Amex has pop-up jail.

They kept saying it didn't match what was in my credit file. I heard the same thing from a few people. This started from my second application. The personal one appeared to be ok. They put me on hold for like 20 mins and application was approved. For my first biz card, I had to call them multiple times to get it approved. And last last biz app was denied like 3 times. I do think having SSN makes things much easier with Chase especially when applying for a business card. I also heard a couple of people saying Chase requested a copy of ITIN even when it was not the first app and got denied as the ITIN was too old. They also did not accept my ITIN last time on the business app (requested SSN).

I'm not sure but it could be that there is no ITIN in Experian? Chase mainly pulled Ex and they only pulled Ex on my last app while the previous 3 appl, they pulled Eq as well where my ITIN was listed.

I'm in the process of getting my ITIN. would it be "helpful" to advise the reporting agencies, so they put it on my credit file? How long would it take to "show"?

Yes it was the Bilt status challenge. Well, maybe next time if they ever run a promo again.

I'm not sure if informing them will work. I heard you just have to apply for a new card. Many people said Amex didn't report ITIN but recent DPs say Amex reports to EQ. I heard Ex and TU does not accept ITIN. I cannot verify this as I have no access to both but heard people talking about it.

Do you know if Chase would let you apply for their 1st personal card with only passport
(no ssn or itin) once you already have a credit history?
