Strategy to obtain US Amex

Called the Chase recon line, and they asked for bank statements. Planning to provide the the HSBC ones. Will there be any issue if there’s no transactions on the account?
Did they say why they required them? If just for ID verification, you'll be fine. In any case, you don't have anything to lose by providing them and seeing what happens.

For everyone who got a Amex from the GT Method, how hard/easy is it to get another amex once you now have your CC

Great, found the info here, cheers. Anyone know how long it takes to get a relationship manager assigned after opening HSBC premier account? When I called the lady didn't know this answer either.
Not sure if you’ve found out yet, but to save the phone calls you can just click on the link in online banking and the assigned person & their contact details will be listed here

Only Charge card for me is the most recent, being Green. And my four card applications have been spread over three years (including 3 x HH, mostly for the bonus points, but also for the Aspire benefits, and all of these suited my situation).

Anyway, 4 x GT certainly can happen.

That’s excellent. Looking to go for my third ….

Did you have any issues? When I got my second it required a phone call to discuss identity details. Any issues like that. Keen to avoid that.

I get the feeling they know I’m lying; and I know that they know …. etc etc

No issues. From memory I had one phone call to check that it was me who applied for a card. Nothing else. The others were instant approval

Apart from applying for an ITIN and opening a checking account, is there anything else that is better to do while in the USA?

That's pretty much always going to be a risk with any US-issued card. While you can often get instant approval, there's all sorts of fraud/etc checks that can get triggered. I've never found any of the phone calls about these issues to be unpleasant or even that inconvenient. Only inconvenience was having to do a NotaryCam for Amex once — that was a pain because they had few appointment slots.

I have a 35 year history of US credit cards and was out of the game for a few years between 2017-2022. When I decided to re-enter the game, I got hammered with fraud/id issues and had to prove who I was to banks I had dealt with for years. A few weeks ago I was in the USA and applied for a Barclays Aviator while physically in MIA at a lounge. Instant approval! I think the banks are being triggered either by overseas ips or VPNs. Chase and Amex seem to be ok with any ip since I have re-established my relationship with them. But when I go for Citi and Cap 1 cards, I think I will wait until I am physically in the US again.

So you do the process 4 times?
Is there a way to get another card added while your have the american account open?

Thanks. There is no US credit card that I'd be prepared to get a Notary for; none really mean that much to me - well, okay, maybe if they offered me a Centurian :p

I hold the fee-free Amex Hilton card since 3 years back and would now like to apply for the 60k Green, but having trouble...

1. What's the best way to apply for someone who has a FICO (775) but no SSN??
2. When trying to apply as logged in under my US account, it asks me for SSN "Please enter your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to continue." – is there a way to not provide SSN? Or do you all have SSNs when applying for your 2nd Amex?
3. If via GT, could someone point me to the right URL or where to find it – the one I found doesn't work when going through 'Personal card' at step 1 (American Express - Moving Abroad - Global Card Transfer - United States)

Thank you

For GT: Login to your Aus AMEX account. Go to the bottom and change country to USA. Then find the card and apply.

I did exactly that as I did with the previous GT Platinum Amex and I have to produce a bank statement. I didn't need to for the first.

YMMV. Even those who applied GT for the first time have been flagged for additional documents. Whilst some have gotten through without issues. People should be prepared to provide additional documentation.

I've gotten through GT twice without any documents and with those exact same steps as the first time I applied but clearly other data points suggest that numerous unknown factors can trigger additional documentation.

FWIW I might be in their good books because I had my first card forwarded to an US address/hotel that I was visiting rather than Aus.

For those with no SSN/ITIN, other than GT, you can do Nova, applying while logged out and tick I don't have a credit history in the US. You can also call to apply.

For P2's first app (not sur eif it was GT or Nova) , they wanted to verify the address but had no doc. Then instantly approved a few months later with GT. He did Nova a couple of weeks ago was approved after calling them to confirm he applied. I applied on the phone for my 2nd and 3rd cards as there was no Nova option back then.

Did they say why they needed a bank statement? Maybe that they just needed to verify the address? Never heard about them asking for a bank statement for other purposes before. Only heard about tax stuff like 4506-c.

They wanted it from a fraud perspective, no idea why. My account is in good order and never had any issues. I might try and chase it up at a higher level.

Hi guys, I just returned home and dug through boxes and boxes until I found my SSN that I got in 2005. I hope this is still active. Is there any way to verify that it still works. Can / should I run a credit enquiry or something online using my SSN?

The SSN lasts for life.
