Strategy to obtain US Amex

Congratulations on the approval!

My status has changed to 7-10 days message and I guess it’s time to call up and plead my case.

Standard questions this time? Address, ITIN, mobile, county?

I always get nervous calling 😬

Yes those are the questions plus a card you have with another bank. I just said I have Amex and Citi and was told he could proceed with the app and then congratulations :D Last time I was asked to give last 4 digits of any card I have with Amex/Citi.

Applied for a second Chase card last night (IHG). Called the automated status line this morning and got 7-10 days message. Called Recon and same old issue with Google Voice but was asked some other questions to verify instead. I was put on hold quite long, over 20 mins but was approved on the spot without any hassle. Card showed up in online account straight away. Easier than I thought this time.
I just tried to apply the Citi Premier card again yesterday and this time was different, no need to verify ID and I got the application ID.

this morning I checked the status on Citi website and it is still reviewing, called the number on their website and asked for SSN but I entered ITIN and couldn’t check the status on the phone line.

do you have any ideas or advice? Thanks.

I follow this thread with interest. Something that has been mentioned a few times is Country as one of the questions that may be asked when calling.

Can someone explain the possible purpose of this, please?

I think you just have to wait for them. My last app, it took them 3 days to request a copy of ITIN then 5 days to approve (including weekend).

It is County. I guess it's kinda address verification without having to say it all since it's not part of the address and if you don't live there, you probably don't know what county it is.

Ah, county. Not a typo at all. Makes sense now. Thanks. 😀

Edit: Sarasota, being in the County of Sarasota. That should be hard to forget.

When they ask what your county is, I just answer the city name, strange!

Just got an email from them asking for US ITIN, did you mail them or email them? Or any site to upload the document? Thanks.

I called and was told to send it with app id to [email protected] (email only mentioned physical mail). If you only see a mail option, you can try this or you call first and get a confirmation.

Pretty much an approval I believe! :)

congratulations for the 2nd chase card. How many months have you open the first chase card?

Did anyone tried to sign up for a HSBC US account lately? I have been asking them to start the process since before Christmas and they haven't called me even after multiple escalations.

Was approved for first card on Sep 25 so a bit over 3 months. Heard after one month is ok but safer at 3 months for second card.

An update on my Chase CSP application using ITIN.

I don't have much luck with SUB. Signed up for 60K SUB and a week later Chase started offering 80K. Thought about letting my app expire but decided to continue with it as I didn't want to waste one credit query. I was approved this morning.

After submitting an app,

- I got 30 days message. This is not bad as it's at least not an auto denial. It just means human has to look at my app.

- A few days later, it changed to 7-10 days messages which normally means either denial or needs verification.

According to this Chase flowchart from reddit,

I should have called them but I was waiting for the letter which never arrived. I decided to call them this week and was told I needed to mail or fax a copy of SSN/ITIN and proof of address which they accepted bank statement (was worried about this before as people reported they only accepted utility bills). I asked about secure upload which was reportedly available. I was told they didn't support it.

2 days after I faxed, I called them again and they still said my docs were not in the system and the agent said I would get a link to upload documents within 24 hours lol

- Before I got a link to upload, the message changed to 30 days again which normally means verification is done and now ready to be reviewed by lending department. Looks like they did get my fax. I was confident at this point as there weren't many cases that got rejected after being asked to submit documents.

I called this morning and was approved while on the phone with them.

If you are using Google Voice, text verification will not work. Each time I called, they tried to verify me by sending text but it failed. I was aware about this. It wasn't an issue as they could verify you with other questions. And 3 our of 4 times, I was asked what county I lived in (just google the city). Thankfully I was prepared as I heard about this before.

Anyway it wasn't as smooth as Amex and Citi but yes Chase still approves ITIN application. I'm now at 3/24 and will be 2/24 early next year. This is my 8th US active card. Will need to start cancelling some of these. In 4 years and a half, I applied for 9 cards and only cancelled one. Most of these are quite worth keeping.
I didn't get anything. The person receiving fax will add your docs to the system then verification team will review them which could take a few days. I would call tomorrow or next week and ask (if not patient). If verification team still can't see you docs, they might ask you to upload instead. If they can see them, you would get a result straight away. It's likely an approval if verification is all they need (and no issue with your docs). I hardly hear people are denied after being asked to verify identity :D Good luck!
@ Finale

I called Chase today and they advised they have sent me a letter asking for more details and presume it’s the letter verifying ID etc. Do you happen to still know the fax number you used to send docs? I am thinking my PostScanMail box will take too long to receive so might get on the front foot and fax my passport, ITIN and Capital One statement through.

I tried +18886439628 but that failed using an online fax app. The number was found online by a Canadian Prince of Travel reader who posted the letter on FB so not sure if it’s right.

Thanks again.

The number I used was 2013283289. Did they give you application ID? You will need it when sending docs. The number you have look correct as well but I think the difference is it is Chase general fax number while the other one goes straight to verification department. At this point, no need to rush.

I am also thinking to get the IHG card as the second card but my first card is only less than 2 months old. I will miss out the 140k IHG card sign up bonus. Hopefully this offer will come back later.

I've had a US Amex card since June 2020 (via the Nova credit route).

I applied for an AMEX Business card by calling up and requesting to use my passport number instead of SSN/ITIN. The application was rejected. I don't think the agent was able to pull up my personal card details as I had to provide all the basic information again, so perhaps thats a possible issue, but I'm guessing the main issue is lack of SSN/ITIN.

Thinking of trying for a second personal card instead.

Has anybody been successful in getting a second US Amex Personal card without an SSN/ITIN? If so, was this before or after your FICO score appeared in the app?

I’ve not used the route you’ve gone so my experience might not be directly relevant. I applied for my first card Bonvoy ‘basic’ via GT. I applied for second card which I use quite a bit the Green card as a personal card via the website. It wasn’t automatically approved. Got message to call Amex who then called me back on my registered TextNow number.

I’ve today bought the T-Mobile service from Amazon which was linked earlier in this thread. Look forward to testing it out especially receiving verification texts on it.

Ok, so it appears possible through the global transfer route.

Does anybody know if you can do a global transfer when you already have an existing US Amex Card approved via nova credit?

When you say you applied for the second card via the website, what did you enter for SSN/ITIN? When I open the application (while logged into AMEX US) it still requires a SSN or ITIN.

Good luck with the T-Mobile!

From memory I left it blank and it allowed me through - albeit with the requirement. I put my Marriott Amex number into the application to apply as an existing cardholder. Was good as I got a better than public sign up offer. I don’t recall using private mode in my browser to get it.
