Strategy to obtain US Amex

Another data point for Revolut to Citi USD to Amex.
Was charged $3.93 for Revolut to Citi - which we are now aware of.
But was charged $15 for Citi to Amex transfers. Followed the same steps like last time but ended up short on payments received at Amex. This time the amount was around USD 1200. I'm confused

I have managed to save this offer to my HA card, however it seems only to be receiving base points up to 30K. Nothing mention about free night certificate whatsoever

Yeah, on closer inspection it looks like some people are getting the base points only offer and some other lucky ones are getting the points + free night. I have the points offer only :(... Maybe it has something to do if you already have a unused free night certificate on your account?

Thanks for trying that large amount. That sounds like there is a limit before their intermediary bank will take a fee. Now I guess we have to figure out what that limit is...

Hi guys, I am trying to add my debit card to Revolut, but for some reason its telling me the card is in US$? Its a CBA card and funds are in A$. What am I missing? I have previously only added funds through bank transfer, and this was the 1st attempt though the debit card.

I was able to redeem a $100 (of the Aspire $250) travel credit by loading cash into United TravelBank. Be mindful to do only 1 transaction. I did a test transaction of $100 with no way of adding more cash to the travelbank.
The TravelCredit meter on Amex Benefits now at $150 and also received $100 credit. The purchase showed up with x7 points.
Doing another transaction worth $100 for my wife's United account.

Another positive DP, managed to use up the $250 airline credit on my aspire card this way.

Hi Pyusha

How long did the transfer from Revolut to Citi AU-USD take? I thought it was instant, but don't seem to be that way.

Tried transferring it twice and in both cases it was not more than an hour or so. Loading funds to Revolut was instant with CBA debit.
I am trying to add funds to Revolut from my CBA debit card too, but it keeps saying ‘Your Card is in USD’ , your bank may charge a fees. So I did not proceed. No idea why it’s saying that, Did you get that too?

It’s already been over an hour since I did Revolut - Citi, funds aren’t they yet. Revolut say it will be 3 business days. Did you do the transfer via SWIFT?

Never faced any problems (card being treated as USD) with CBA debit while loading funds to Revolut.

Revolut to Citi is on SWIFT.

Revolut keep telling me my CBA debit card was issued in US, hence i cant add it. They even said they have checked with Mastercard who have confirmed as card being issued in US

That's very weird.
Not sure, but worth checking if your apple account location is US and if that's why it's being treated as a USD card. Did you try Citi/any other card?

After much frustration, I found out that my CBA card is an old keycard, not supported for any type of online transaction. So I called CBA & they are sending the MC Debit Card. That’s 2 hours of my life I am not getting back. I thought I was losing my sanity. Apparently they have kept the keycard cos a lot of their elderly customers don’t want a card that can be used online by someone illegally, since they almost never do any online shopping themselves.

For those wanting to obtain business credit cards. An option might be to open a stock trading account which requires to obtain a ITIN no if you do not have an SSN. With ITIN no it’s quite possible to open a business checking account then applying for business credit cards.
Not too sure what others have done.

With ITIN one can open almost all personal credit cards as well .
which is a good low cost stock trading account to open for this purpose ? And can they be opened remotely ?

recently opened a trading account with WeBull. Opened account remotely with SSN & deposited cash with US business checking account. Here is a referral link to get 2 free stocks for opening an account & making $100 deposit. There are no commissions & fees, unlike nabtrade where there is a fee for buying & selling.

I’m not an accountant, but might be possible to setup a C-Corp for financial benefits. Seek your account about going C-Corp option.

I have a friend who is accountant in the US and he just helped me to fill the tax return with $500 income for selling online (website, eBay or Amazon) and I’ll use it to obtain the ITIN. I’ll keep you guys posted in the next 2,3 weeks once I have got the ITIN and will apply Citi and Chase cards with my ITIN. I have already got US credit score with Amex.

get the chase cards first & know the 5/24 rule. Chase business cards don’t count towards 5/24 but are governed by 5/24 rule when applying.

Exciting times @tlam and I am in a similar position as my W-7 IRIS Form has been completed and my 2019 IRS 1040R also with a similar $500 income.

Quick interview scheduled for Thursday to verify my passport and hopefully ITIN coming soon.

Now to work out the next step in this journey, I was thinking about applying for another US Amex with ITIN attached to build history with the ITIN first and then try for Citi and Chase or do you think we can go straight into applying for non Amex cards?

to apply Chase you need to have: 1. the credit score and 2. SSN or ITIN
I applied Amex last year and just got the credit score showing in my Amex account. If you have not built the credit score, you should apply Amex first. Otherwise, your Chase application will be likely declined. I tried to apply Citi card without ITIN and got declined within 24h.

FICO score 744 from US Amex since November last year so good to go.
