Strategy to obtain US Amex

How hard is it to apply for amex business cards? I already have Hilton Aspire and Bonvoy Brilliant. Held it for 1 year +.
Do I need ITIN or anything else to apply for Bonvoy business card from amex?
I got the Amex Cash Magnet and Green card, had them for around 4 months, applied for a business card recently and got declined.
The reason was no credit score. So based on this, I think if you have a good credit score and it's showing up in your dashboard when you login to the Amex portal, then you should be fine to apply.
In terms of an ITIN, I think you need to have an ITIN or an SSN at least (and an EIN if you got an LLC and not applying under sole prop) to apply for a business card.
You might have luck without an ITIN/SSN if you call in to apply but I haven't tried it before, not sure if it works or not.

Ahh, I see that is Connect by T-Mobile. A lot better, though still a little on the expensive side. Though I wonder if it is worth getting one of those plans to be able to use Chase text message verification (you can't use it with TextNow). Are you planning to apply for any Chase cards? Or just Amex?
Early days atm, Amex was my primary goal, but I'm keen to expand on that and the CSP/CSR would be ideal (along with an IHG to replace the UK IHG card I recently lost). I don't have an ITIN or anything right now though, so will have to look into that a bit more if it comes to it.

I agree that $10 USD per month just to receive the occasional SMS isn't ideal, but given it's real mobile service, and not a third party service or whatnot makes it somewhat more reliable in my eyes (we'll see).

Just wondering, did amex deliver to and did Planet Express forward on the card without issue?

I usually use Planet Express for package forwarding and was thinking of signing up for the Hilton Aspire card using my Planet Express address (if it worked for you!)
They've delivered it to Planet Express, but it hasn't showed up in my account yet (tracking confirms it's delivered). I believe this is because Amex don't put the suite address on their mail, which means it just sits there, so I've lodged a missing claim with the tracking number.

Planet Express' T&Cs confirm they'll forward CCs (unlike MyUS, which specifically say they won't), but that you may need to do an online notary thing (fine). Failing that, I'll see if Amex will just mail out the card to Australia (have to wait 10 days), but in the interim I'm using it via PayPal (was able to add directly from the app, but not to Apple Pay weirdly).

Well, yes and no, and maybe. My 3 x Amex cards each had the full address on the delivery letter, and not missing the Ste. I use “Apt” and not Ste and include it in the first address block as well as the second, in the application, but who knows why some addresses are incomplete with Amex.

I know nothing about Planet Express, and I use MyUS. MyUS take several-plus days to add items to my Suite anyway. Regardless of what MyUS states about credit cards, I seem to receive them and I don’t have Premium+Mail. Maybe pot luck. 🤷‍♂️

My only issue has been with the USPS, where an Amex card (Surpass) sat in a USPS mail facility near Sarasota for 14 days before finding it’s way to MyUS.

Must be pot luck depending on who you get at MyUS in that case, I tried several times with them but they flat out refused to forward it, the options were return to sender or destroy it, I just told them to destroy it and closed my account (with MyUS). Bit of a ridiculous restriction really, especially if you can prove you're the cardholder!

Just got rejected for Capital One Venture X. Does anyone have any datapoints on length of credit history required to be approved?

For people figuring out the SMS situation - this is not needed at all. Just do manual verification when it comes to it.

I got approved for the Venture last year, my credit score was good and established 2 years. For me the Venture is enough, the X just added more travel credit and 10x points if you book through Capital One portal.

Cheers, thanks for that. I will probably wait a bit longer then try to reapply for Venture X. I think Venture X makes more sense than Venture and you can even try to apply separately for it (instead of product change). You can get the sign up bonus again plus the 10k anniversary miles offsetting the annual fee in the following year. This is assuming the $300 travel credit isn't that hard to use or price inflated. Hard to see any card beating the Venture/X on everyday spending that doesn't fit into the bonus categories that the other systems have.

Capital One are notoriously hard to work out as they seem very inconsistent. Most data points seem to suggest that they are very sensitive to previous inquiries — try not to apply unless it has been six months since you last applied for a card. I've seen data points of people applying three months after first getting rejected and being approved, so wait a while and try again.

The VX is an incredible card to pair with the SavorOne because the SO has no AF, no foreign transaction fees and the 3% earn can be converted to Venture Miles for redemption using the VX partners. All that for a net negative annual fee of $5 if you can use the $300 travel portal credit well.

Honestly, it's probably the best ongoing earn rate for people outside the US. Blows Amex out of the water.

Only reason I'm not using it at the moment is I'm churning and sign up bonuses will always outdo ongoing earn rates.

Makes me laugh to think of Capital One as a picky lender, my only experience of them has been in the UK, and they're a sub-prime lender there, they'll give anyone a card unless you're bankrupt (around 15+ years ago they used to send mailouts offering "guaranteed acceptance" and even secured credit cards, no idea what they offer these days).

That said, before the interchange caps they had Aspire World and Aspire Elite cards, which paid 5% cashback SUB and 1.25% ongoing, they were actually decent cards, long since dead though.

Anyway, I digress.

I made the target spend on the Amex Delta Gold and within 2-3 days of the B of A Air France.
I decided to leave Cap One to next year because it seems like a hard one.

I am eyeing the Chase United next week. Just waiting for the IHG card which I have had for 10 years to post, then I pay it off and then I will apply.

Has anyone been able to get a Chase card shipped to Australia? Or do you have your US mailer send it?

Thanks for pointing out the SavorOne - seems like an incredible card to pair it up with Venture X for transfer. Probably the only card that works for AU users on supermarket and entertainment spend. I can probably retire the CSP with this combo but I will lose Hyatt as a transfer partner (only program that hasn't fully devalued).

Amex is definitely a big problem outside of the US, acceptance isn't universal especially at most small merchants and often with extra surcharge despite Amex best efforts in reducing interchange rates.

Is that the Chase United Quest? With the airline cards - do you guys fly a fair bit on a particular airline or just getting the SUB?

US mailer sends Chase for me.

There are rumours in the US that CapitalOne prefers a bit of bad credit history so they can make more money off interest repayments.

For me it's a strategy. I am after SUBs for now and I have target awards I am working for. These airline specific cards have annual fee waived (except B of A AF/KLM) and easy targets.

The other transferrable cards like CSP, Cap One Venture and Citi Premier might be kept beyond the first year if I can get the next year's annual fee waived. And they all need $4000 spend in 3 months which is difficult for me unless I time it with a trip overseas. CSP has a $50 hotel credit which cuts the annual fee in half.

Thanks for the update, please post once its been added to your account and let me know if they just forwarded it without issue or if you had to jump through the online notary stuff.

I'll likely put in my Global Transfer app following the same route as you with Planet Express if it all works out smoothly.

Cheers!

How does planet express compare cost wise with my us ?

I know many of you have the US Hilton Amex which comes with free night certificate.

Not sure if this is allowed, but does anyone have 1 or more free night certificates that they unable to use? Could sell/trade.

I'm looking to book a stay of 2 or 3 nights first week of October 2022 so need multiple certificates.
