Strategy to obtain US Amex

I am planning a trip to Hawaii in late 2023.

Has anyone here opened a bank account in Hawaii ?
Was thinking of trying my luck with American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii or First Hawaiian Bank.

I’ve been there, not many good banks there, very limited options. I tried with First Hawaii bank but no luck, they don’t open bank account for aliens. (yes they used the word aliens)

LOL thank you for your reply Tlam.
I think i will try my luck when i visit Las Vegas then. There are BoA, Wells Fargo and Citi branches there.

Which city and bank did you go to in the end ?
And did they set up the online banking log in etc for you too ?

the easiest one is Citi, you just need the Aussie driver license and passport, yes they will help you to setup online banking using your Aussie mobile number. Unfortunately, you can no longer do instant transfer between Citi US and Australia as Citibank Australia sold to NAB.

BoA and Well Fargo are also good to go but when I open the Well Fargo bank account they required my US address and mobile number.

Many thanks for your helpful information. Looks like it is BoA or Citi for me then !

To those who have received their Hilton Aspire or Bonvoy Brilliant card via their MyUs address, how long did their receiving department take to record the delivered card into your account ?

According to the AMEX / Fedex tracking, my card was delivered to my MyUs address nearly 2 days ago. The MyUs rep told me that, it may take up to 2 days to get my delivery recorded.
Is that the experience for MyUs users here ?

Close to two weeks, once, although I’ve had it processed within a few days, also.

When truck-loads of items are received at the loading dock they are not signed for individually, but just in bulk.

Individual sorting and allocation to suites/apartments follows. Once allocated, depending on staff availability, your sending/holding instructions will be put into action.

OMG, two weeks is very long. Fingers crossed my card gets logged by MyUs soon. If they lose my card, I am going to use another mail forwarder such as USA2me. Thank you for your reply .

For existing US Amex cardholders, does anyone know if they'll send an initial second card to an overseas address?

Eg If you hold an Aspire then apply for the Surpass, can they send the initial Surpass card to an overseas address? Or do you still have to get the initial card sent to a US address?

Card won’t get approved with overseas address . You can have ur approved . Sent to us address . Then call after few days and say you are travelling to have it sent to overseas add .

You can open online with your ITIN but need US address and US phone number. If you go to branch, they can use all your Aussie information and the card will be sent to your Australia address.

Hi Tlam,

May I ask which mail forwarder you used for your US credit cards?

Will my us or similar and a text now number work for them ?

Well well,
Stupid AMEX did not write down the Suite Number on my MyUS address, hence the delay in releasing the couried Aspire card into my MyUS account.

I had to send screenshots of the AMEX email to me, and my full MyUS address on my AMEX account to the MyUS guys , so that they could release the card into my MyUS account.
(A Tip : Best to write down the tracking number that was used by AMEX to deliver your card. In case something like this happens when you are using a mail forwarder such as MyUS)

I think i will have to ask my American friend to do me a favour now, by using her home address for future AMEX deliveries.

This suite No been missing has been discussed here at length with tips mentioned as well .
Is this an issue only with Amex ? What about chase and Citi ?

Sorry Tlam, but final question re opening US bank accounts,,,,Did BoA, Citi etc ask for your ITIN ? (In addition to the Australian passport and drivers license ?)

And an ITIN question,,,,when you applied for one with EIN Express, did you have to send your passport to them ?

Thank you very much again.

No . When I applied I didn’t have to send my original passport . They ask you to mail their forms and conduct a video interview .
I have posted a link for a Canadian org that might be cheaper for itin applications .
