I've heard mentioned, that for older people (say 70+) it is better to break up a long haul flight by having a stop over in between. The thinking being that it helps to adjust to the jet lag better.

I'm curious to know what other people think? I've never made a stop-over, and I'm curious, does it really help? Are you much more refreshed? Or is it just hassle - transiting to and from hotels, more waiting around at airports?

I am not 70+ but about half that, nevertheless still appreciate stopovers if possible:p and this is flying in J!
It breaks the journey up, allows me to sleep in a real bed. Worth it if you have the time and do not need to rush to get to your final destination. Opportunity to have a look at the stopover city as well.
Depends on the stopover city, how long/difficult it takes to get to the city (and return), costs, time available.

I like stopovers when I can, love the chance to get outside and walk around, see new things etc. But if this is outside your comfort zone then dont do it. It my be better and cheaper to buy Qantas club membership. Then you can use the lounge in the stopover city. You may even want to try skipping the direct connecting flight and go on the next one out a few hours later.
