Have searched and skimmed through the t&cs but cannot find a simple answer, so I will use the ask the audience option (would phone a friend but they are at the flounge and enjoying too much bubbles ...)

Myself and the Colster clan are traipsing around europe later in the year. We need to get from CDG or ORY to EDI. I can find heaps of reward availability on BA, but they naturally all go through LON (for 10k QFFP per pax). If I want to make that a stopover, it doubles the points, even though the route is exactly the same. Can I use the change in LON as a stopover without the penalty or is this not allowed???

thanks in advance

C.

I would think you would have to book it at as two separate legs, but with London to Edinburgh trains taking 4 1/2 hours the train would be as quick from city centre to city centre, and with single fares from 24 GBP, it's not much more expensive than the cost of the train from London to LHR.

Indeed, but if I can get the same thing for the same points :-) and with a free meal and drinks for the four of us in the BA Flounge :-)

You may want to look at purchasing the fare from LHR to EDI also. 10000 pts and 40 something pounds in taxes may mean that a paid fare is competitive .

As soon as you add a stopover it generates a new "trip" and hence additional award costs.

One way around this is to use two one world carriers other than QF to make it a oneworld classic award ... but that's calculated on a round-trip basis.

I tried to recreate this. When I tried as long as you arrived and left via Heathrow you could do a sub-24 hour layover for the 10K plus taxes.

If you could find some spare BA Avios points (4500 per person) a full stopover (including open-jaw London airports) is included (and with small taxes GBP 17.50) but only if you book by 28th April when the BA devaluation kicks in. Suspect availability wouldn't be too bad in advance if flexible by the odd day or two
