Hello, I'm new here and learning every time I visit!

I'm traveling from Sydney to New Orleans in October and would like to have a few days in Hong Kong on the way (yes, it's a longish way around). All the fares I've looked at for this are extremely expensive (e.g. $5000+). Does anyone have suggestions of airlines that might do this more cheaply, or ways to get the stopover without it adding so much to the price? Thanks!

Doug,

Use this site: Matrix - ITA Software by Google to enter flights from SYD to MSY. Click on the "Advanced Routing Codes" and enter HKG into that field to search on flights that go through HKG. This site will give you a list of flights and indicative prices - you cannot actually book through them.

You could try getting a fare from Cathay Pacific Syd - Los Angeles (or any other of their gateways in the USA), and then adding a separate ticket LAX-New orleans. I suspect it will work out a fair bit cheaper.

Hi Seat, thanks for the link to that very useful looking Google tool, I think I'm going to spend some time playing with it, cheers!
