Hi all,

I'm after some clarification on the rolling status upgrade process for a family member.

As of 25 June my mother needed 95 status credits to get her balance over 1000 to qualify for Platinum so she booked 2 flights in J at 60 SC's each with the other pax family pooling to her account. As the flight didn't post straight away the SC's due to expire on the 25th dropped off and the upgrade to Platinum didn't occur. Now, my assumption was that as the status credit balance went over 1025 during a rolling 12 month period (based on travel date, not posting date which as we all know can be wildly different!) this upgrade should occur however, she received a less than helpful e-mail back basically restating what is on the account profile (you need xx status credits to upgrade ect) and ignoring the question and the statement that was originally attached indicating that she had earned 1025 credits.

Is my understanding of the way the rolling year status upgrade correct?

Cheers

Hi jjsyd. To be honest, I'm not sure if you are correct here - and I may not be either, but my understanding is that you had to earn a certain amount of status credits within a defined 12 month time period (ie 1 January - 31 December) to maintain or upgrade to another level. If your mother's 12 month review period expired on 25 June, my understanding is that she would have had to have flown the additional flights she needed to upgrade to platinum by this date to obtain the status credits required. If at 25 June she hadn't obtained the necessary status credits (and it was her expiry date), then the status credit starting point (to maintain or upgrade) would be reset to zero for the next 12 months (not the actual status credit balance shown on the right hand side of the account page though) and she would have to start again. I hope this makes sense. Cheers SuzieQ

I think the question in point here is whether the 12 month rolling period tallies up SCs based on travel date or by posting date. Theoretically, jjsyd's mother did enough flying to earn platinum but due to the delays in the SCs posting to her account the system did not upgrade her status. But keep in mind that it is an automated computer system that determines the status at the end of the 12 month rolling period. Given the SCs had not yet posted, the system worked out that she only had 915 or so odd SCs and hence this was not enough to upgrade her to platinum. Based on what happened, I'm inclined to think the calculation is based on posting date.

I think best course of action here is telephone the FF contact centre and explain the situation. I doubt you will get much progress via emails.

Of course - we should all take it as a lesson not to leave runs until the very last minute as things can and do go wrong.

Hi all,

I presume the additional flights were taken on or before the 25th of June and the points / SC's posted after the 25th June and the status upgraded did not happen.

As posted by Deewhy, if there were indeed 1000 SC's earned to an account in a 365 day period, then a phone call should fix it.

I thought that it might be a problem flying on the last day to earn the extra SC's but it thought an e-mail to Velocity would swiftly resolve it. Sadly that's not the case!

Thanks all for your comments, I'll get her to call and hopefully they will fix it for her.

Cheers

The same thing happened to me last year and the situation was rectified when I rang Customer Service.

Send VFF a PM with the details and they will sort it out.

Similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago flights on weekend of renewal, SC's posted on Monday after renewal.
