So during the DSC promo I made mel-syd-chc-bne-mel booking in J which I think will net me 540 sc.
my problem is its a pure SC run, and if I can avoid it I would like to
I already have 1000sc, so im going to be over for quite a bit .

any suggestions on what i would do to reduce the time I spend traveling.

hey there, not sure I understand the question??? Do you mean you want to cancel the booking as you no longer need it? Or do you want to cut out a few sectors (modify the booking)?? Or do you want the planes to go faster? :)

so I only need 1200, so about 1/2 of what I will net, where could I go so I still net enough points but shorten my journey and possibly get some $$$ back

My calculation is that is 520 SC (260x2) btw
MEL-SYD 40
SYD-CHC 80
CHC-BNE 80
BNE-MEL 60

if you're only looking to make the 1400 for Plat, then why not just cut out the BNE? ie MEL-SYD-CHC-MEL should do?

of course your problem is that changing that booking to remove/change cities likely will cancel out the DSC.

so umm fly what you have booked?

If you only need 200 then cancel the booking for refund just book MEL_SYD-CHC-MEL as I suggested and you have your 200 SC's without worrying about DSC.

Interesting. Must have changed, unless that's Flex J.

OK then sure, 540

but it's still overkill if the goal is only 200 more, so yeah I'd stll just refund the ticket (assuming it's a refundable fare) and book something to net 200, be it MEL-SYD-AKL/CHC/WLG-MEL, or maybe even something like MEL-BNE-CNS-SYD-MEL which would also work. (CNS-SYD only netting 60 SC in J is a absolute disgrace, but that's a whole other issue).Even MEL-SYD-CNS r/t would make 200 exactly.

Yep, stop in CHC, hire a car, drive to ZQN. Enjoy the views, great food, superb wines drive back to CHC and fly home. :)

Another aspect to consider is the informal QF "three year rule". Sometimes excess SC are actually worth a hell of a lot if your travel may decrease. Those flights, all in J, are easy ones. Just do them :)

IIRC Discount = 80
Business = 85
And Flex = 90

Just don't ask me which bucket falls where

I thought DSC no longer apply to the Loyalty Bonus.

Has that been confirmed in practice?

on the loyalty bonus, will that carry across to my next qf year ? as in I have the 50 status to allocate atm and says I have till june, can i wait till rollover to next year(may) then click?

That's how it appears to work

ah well yes I had assumed discount or sale J for all sectors which is what I based my numbers on. If the others were Flex it would be more than 540 in total but I suppose it depends how it's booked, what fares are available and all that.

re the "3 year rule" - I wonde rhow much this matters going forward? With QF seemingly abandoning comp status renewals in favour of offering "paid" status renewals with points then the whole 3 year average SC earn may be moot. And even if it still holds, they may well start to take DSC earn into this too (it seems to be the way they are headed given all the other restrictions popping up). As with everything in this realm it's a bit hard to tell.

I'd agree that the 'three year rule' is looking very dodgy. Didn't save me recently :(
