Status run - is it worth the trouble?

Another small issue. I am on QF175 from SYD-LAX via BNE because there is no availability in D on either QF11 or QF107. I've checked SeatCounter and it is showing 0 in D on both flights.

If you are booked QF175 SYD-LAX then you can waitlist for any of the SYD-LAX flights. So long as there is plenty of J available, there is a good chance of the waitlist clearing. If you can get onto QF11 or QF107 then you at least have a chance for waitlisting for an upgrade to F - no chance on QF175. At least a transit in BNE is simple. Just don't buy any duty-free liquids in Sydney.

QF175 means an early start on a Saturday morning in SYD. Breakfast in the FLounge is great if you have OneWorld Emerald status.

Thanks NM. I am waitlisted on both QF11 and QF107 and there seems to be plenty of availability in J at this stage. If I get either of the 3-class services then I may try for an upgrade (is it 60K points?) on the outbound sector. I am also thinking of trying to switch my LHR-HKG from CX to QF because the only CX flights with D on my dates are A340s and I'm just not a big fan. So if I do this then I may try for F on the return as well.

Sorry for all the questions but as this is my first DONE4 I want to get it right.

I just called the QF call centre to get them to add up the SCs for my itinerary to make sure I was earning the right amount. The operator had two concerns with the itinerary:...

Firstly, I would NEVER call qantas and ask for such information. You have to be lucky to get someone who knows what they are on about. Aside from that they are prone to push their employers cause rather than yours. As posted by NM, you can often get someone with their own interpretations of the rules as well.

To calculate SC's, I use MileageMonkey 0.95013 and remember to add the extra SC for travelling AA Domestic in First Class where appropriate. (e.g. LAX-DFW is 80 SC's in J but 120 in F).

1. I am flying SYD-LAX on QF and then LAX-SFO-LAX on AA before joining QF107 to fly LAX-JFK. The QF operator said that once I commence a flight on AA in North America, I cannot get back on a QF flight. She said this was "to protect their revenue". Is that the case?...

The agent is incorrect. As long as the QF107 flight is on the same itinerary as your QF flight to N/A you should be fine - certainly on the one PNR (as a xONEx will be).

2. After returning to SYD I have a couple of domestic sectors. I was originally doing the popular SYD-PER-ADL-SYD but instead decided to visit my family in Cairns so I changed it to SYD-CNS-SYD. The QF operator says that this isn't valid because I am stopping over in SYD (the domestic sectors are about two weeks after my arrival back into SYD). Is she right about that? ...

This rule exists in other oneworld products (Such as the Global Explorer, section 4D) but not the oneworld Explorer.
