Hello everybody,

Ok i have caught the crazy bug ! (I never even extpected to make SG, let alone the fast WP is within reach) and i have a reason for wanting status, i plan some trips next year where being WP can help (F lounge access sure, but also upgrade possabilities)

I am currently located in SIN and some SC earning before last week of July.
Its less than 400SC i need and i just don't know how many legitimate trips i will be doing between now and then... So anybody with some ideas ?

SIN-KUL J on JAL is 40SC each way and about SG$420
The CX HKG-BKK seems expensive at the moment... and SIN-HKG is a joke except Y.

I am more limited to weekend travel or long weekend also, open to any ideas anybody may have. F,J,Y is all ok provided the cost is reasonable. I will entertain a pure SC run but also interesting weekends away.

Unfortunately with Finnair ending their tag flights SCruns do not seem to be attractive in SE Asia now.

If you do 5 return trips SIN-KUL this will give 400 SCs at a cost of ~S$2100. One problem is you have to overnight in KUL with each trip as you would not make the return flight. I cannot think of anything cheaper. Another option is CX J SIN-BKK but again this requires an overnight and I do not think it is cost effective from SIN.

Had a quick look, but didn't delve too deeply.

CX have a SIN-JKT (Jakarta) fare of ~$SG1050 +++ Return which if able to be flown should be 320 SC's. ($A 4.50-$5 each when taxes included?)

However, could not get Zuji, Expedia or Cathay to price it out and show schedules etc. So maybe unavailable.

As already discussed, the days of getting easy and cheap J tags on OneWorld is pretty much gone in Asia (Except for some long distance flights, eg to U.S etc from certain locations).

Get to HNL as cheap as possible; then do a YUP; an optimized MCI return for ~USD1300 via LAX should glean those SC's you desire.

Now thats the crazy thinking i am after :) I could enjoy that.

CX J SIN-BKK is from what i see expensive, i have never seen much of a good fare on that route, must just be looking at the wrong times, i will have less than 400SC to get, just not sure how much less, could even find myself in Japan next week for work which will help. Have 440 SC now, but a MEL-PER-SIN in Y trip to take this weekend. Just not sure what other work trip i have planned next 6 weeks.

Jakarta sounds interesting. Havn't been back there in a few years (used to do some work there) But can't seem to find the routeing (atleast in the OW timetable)

Where do you see that airfare? CX used to have 2 flights a day HKG-CGK with one direct and one via SIN. If I remember correctly they dropped the routing via SIN a couple of years ago and now only have 2 direct flights HKG-CGK.

SIN-CGK return would only be 80 SC's in business class anyway.

ExpertFlyer.

From what you say, and the fact I can't find it anywhere else, I believe it is a historical route that no longer can be booked.

And here i was getting excited... seems the only good deals are in USA with the YUP's. Hopefully work decides i need a few trips in the next weeks :)

Missed out on J SC's on my op-up couple of days ago. Atleast i got full econ (WT+)

On the US side of things, Getting to HNL is not that easy from SIN i discovered. Not to many options for that.

Almost feel like begging QF to comp me based on travel i will have booked Aug/Sep/Oct etc.

But they don't fly to Singapore and starclass not that cheap for the experience, i prefer WT+, am looking at changing my current Y MEL-PER-SIN flight this weekend but need to overnight in PER.

$160? $1600? for 240 sc's?

Can't find fares that low. Want to provide pointers on the dates you searched on?

Nothing wrong with flying SIN-KUL return with JL at 80 SCs each trip. You do this over 4 weekends and there is 320 SCs. If you need some more SCs then do another trip.

I think that is meant to read A$1600 not A$160. But I just had a look at the JQ website for a return trip HKT-SYD end of July and it priced at 52,732THB, converting at 28THB/A$ that is ~A$1900. Not really a very good deal for 240 SCs at A$7.91/SC.

To get those same 240 SCs would only require S$1260, converting at S$1.27/A$ would be ~A$1000, for 3 return trips SIN-KUL with JL. I would call that a good deal for 240 SCs at A$4.16/SC. But you will also need 3 nights accommodation and transfers in KL at say A$100/night and you are still way in front of the JQ deal.

There are sometimes biz specials on the SIN-BKK flights on CX that cost about $550 but they can be a bit elusive to track down. Pity LX ain't oneworld - they've got awesome Z class fares on the BKK run.
Yes but there is no same day turnaround SIN-BKK or even BKK-SIN on CX so again need to factor cost of accommodation and transfers.

Since my company is currently still finding me accomodation in SIN and i am in a hotel i should be able to swing the accom at no cost to me :)
And besides i like KL and would spend the weekend there in the Hilton just enjoying the place.

Given the circumstances you have mentioned if I was serious about making QF Platinum then I would definitely go for the JL option SIN-KUL and make a weekend of it staying one night in Hilton and one night in Holiday Inn.

Well i want to be doing a few trips next year to Europe and USA so for me the chance to be WP can be useful as i plan on using points for upgrades on some legs, and well just because i can :)

Friday night to KUL, 2 nights in Hilton, then Sunday night back to SIN where i use holiday-inn during the week, or novotel but i think i prefer the holiday-inn park view. Also means i am less inclined to be working on the weekend. And lots of duty free into SIN since i hate paying so much for drinks.

Hotels in SIN are about the same price as a serviced apartment !!! Hence my company not being too worried where i stay.

What does your company do and do they have any vacancies?
