Those of you that have sucessfully status matched/challenged to another airline/alliance - have you managed to maintain your status with them after that introductory period?

Also, how frequently can you go about this process ahould you not be able to maintain the status? Is it a once only kind of thing or more like the credit card deals where you can repeat after a decent interval?

Status matches are generally once only per airline. The US airlines are an exception as you can start a status match challenge once every 5 years.

I have status matched with Air NZ but will struggle to maintain Gold. I am P with Qantas with anniversary of 30 November. I have P for next year. This means I don't need to travel with Qantas until December 2018. I tried flying AIr NZ October/November but only managed some domestic flights. I was hoping to do Mel-WLG but circumstances meant I had to go to Sydney and I wasn't going to sacrifice Qantas First Class lounge. It means that careful planning is needed, but I just don't have time to keep up Gold. Another downside is that AIr NZ don't fly business from WLG so upgrade not possible. Though nice while it last.
