Status Credits from Singapore Air to Virgin Australia Denied on a technicality

Hi all,

I have an issue with both Singapore Air & Virgin that I would like your opinion on.
  1. I took a business class return flight from Perth to Tokyo with Singapore Air earlier this year.
  2. The plan was to use the status credits from this flight to maintain my Velocity status
  3. I called both Singapore Air & virgin to shore up this plan before booking the flight, the only stated catch was that I had to declare my intention when checking in with Singapore air at the check in counter and register my Velocity frequent flyer number
  4. After waiting a couple of months post completing all the legs/flights only one of the legs was showing status points / credits
  5. After several check in s with both Virgin & Singapore Air, Virgin Australia has now said that no status credits can be awarded because the flight was part paid for with Krisflyer Miles ( a very small amount I might add, I think it saved me $5 or 10 dollars)
  6. Singapore have now informed me that by default, some Krisflyer points are used when buying a flight with Cash (apparently that is a requirement to earn more Krisflyer points?
I am pretty frustrated as I took this flight to get the status points with Virgin to maintain my status, and also went to a lot of effort to check with both Virgin & Singapore Air that I was doing all the right things prior to flying. I really interested to know what steps I should take next, should I appeal this via Virgin Australia complaints process? It doesn’t seem like I have much in the way of options!

I appreciate the insights from all the seasoned Frequent Flyers!

I've been caught out by this as well. A dumb mistake as I thought I could redeem a few left over krisflyer miles.

It does say this on the VA website that if you use Krisflyer miles then credits aren't earnt:

You don't have any options and rules are rules (I was lucky mine was a single DRW-SIN flight in Y so minimal loss) and for what it's worth the same rules apply to Star Alliance partners, if you use Kirsflyer points also unable to earn on star alliance partners.

Thanks @henrus - that settles it, an expensive lesson but a lesson none the less.
