Hello all,

I recently flew Hanoi to Singapore on a SQ Y Flexi ticket. At the airport, I paid an extra USD526 for a business class (C) ticket which, combined with the original ticket amount, was the same amount as if I'd originally booked a business class ticket.

I have only received status credits for the original Y ticket and VA are saying that you do not receive status credits for upgrades purchased at the airport. I can understand that if it was a discounted amount but as everyone knows, SQ do not discount their C fares. I have sent my boarding pass, receipt and revised ticket coupon showing a C class fare but they are refusing to credit the extra SC.

The terms and conditions say this: Members travelling on Upgraded fares purchased with Points or any other subsidised means of Upgrades on Virgin Australia or our partner airlines will earn Status Credits based on originally purchased fare classes.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks

Hi Sprucegoose,

Yes, I paid the same fare (6USD more to be exact) and have a coupon from SQ showing a C class fare.

Thanks

These T&Cs tell you exactly what to expect: you will earn status credits based on the original fare purchased - in your case - Y - as opposed to the upgraded fare.

Based on what you've said, I think you have a legitimate case, but I'm not sure you'll be successful. Your upgrade would appear to not be subsidised. Afraid I don't have any sage advice, I guess it boils down to how hard you want to push the issue.

Nope. Simply translated it means any upgraded fare by points and/or cash only earn SCs at the ORIGINAL purchased fare class - not the newly upgraded fare class (unless I am completely reading this wrong which I've been known to do after midnight!)

Hmm. To me I side with the op. If paying cash and getting a revised receipt and itin then I don't see how this fits into the velocity definition.

To me it is very similar to changing an existing booking, not getting an upgraded flight due to other means.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses. To me it doesn't fit into the terms and conditions highlighted because there was no subsidy whatsoever. It was full fare and I have coupon showing the new class.

I will call Velocity again today and report back on the outcome.

Thanks

Do NOT use the word upgrade - avoid ALL reference to that and any word or phrase that might indicate similar.

You were reticketed in Business - you paid an actual business fare (C).

Update:

Great outcome from the Velocity team. It took us a bit to get there and a few phone calls but logging in a moment ago, I can now see my extra SC's and an extra 3,500 points.

Nice work VA! :)
