Standard taxi fares MEL-Hawthorn

I wonder about the taxis doing the Spencer street - Airport route

I swear the one I caught the driver was unlicensed (no photo ID etc) - he actually refused to turn on the meter (it was "broken")

I distinctly remember the taxi had a fuzzy stuffed Ganesha doll hanging off the rear view mirror - and I could not help but think a little divine protection couldn't hurt

I looked at it as practice for Malaysia :p

Hi all

Thanks for the replies - very useful range of info. I tried the fare estimator but it is blocked by our webservers at work :(

simongr - I have just tried to PM you but is says that you don't accept PMs - is your message bank full?

I had a slight technical issue yesterday with my registration here - all fixed now :)

I live in Richmond which is 2 km closer to airport on same route.

Expect at least $70 at that time of the morning. (assuming week day)

Well, did it 10 days ago Camberwell-MEL - onto citylink at burnley, was about 430am Monday morning. Took <30 mins.

Meter incl tolls was $80.60

Hi all
Can anyone advise what a "normal" taxi fare at around 8:30AM would be from MEL to Hawthorn? I have been advised that Hire Cars service (I refuse to call a statesman a limousine) should only be used by the exec team so I am comparing the diff in cost between a taxi and a Hire Car service and will pay the difference myself (tax deductible of course ;))
Cheers
Simon

Simon,

Can you just record the kms, i know if waiting time is there your stuffed but should give a decent idea of costs, certianly that will be the minimum.
$3.20 flagfall
$1.526 / km (but i thought it was 1.617 now...)
$3.70 western link toll
$3.00 airport pre booking

I use silver service guys and they have a meter + there ontop that they charge ($11 or $13) but they wait and will even come in to help with bags if i want.

For me from MEL to doncaster (near shopping town) is nearly always almost $75

There's a 20% surcharge for flagfalls between Midnight and 5am making the $1.62/Km actually $1.95/Km.

at that time of the morning, I would have had the driver take Bridge and Flemington roads for about $16 less in fare and another $2 less in tolls with minimal time difference.

Here's the current fares: Taxis and hire vehicles - Taxi fares in Victoria

Good to see the silvertop taxi site is uptodate with changes from 3 months ago... maybe you could have a go at them when they charge the higher rate and demand the cheaper rate on there web site ;)

I have come to a mutual understanding - I now pay $75 for MEL fares and $90 for SYD fares. So a trip to MEL costs me $50 being around $28 after tax. I consider that good value for me to maximise my time in MEL (walk from meeting to car to lounge to bar to flight) and get work done in the car and not be late leaving in the mornings.

I did a taxi trip from MEL at around 8:30am to Hawthorn a while ago. I got stuck in traffic, and the fare was about $85.

And to think a hire car from MEL airport on most days is ~$45 + petrol + FF points/miles. Wouldn't this be the best option if one was returning back to the airport same day or even the next day?

I have considered that as well. There is the consideration of parking cost/ease at the location we are based (but that is not a big deal) and refuelling on the way back (which eats into time onsite) but those probably just add up to direct costs of a single journey - not the return. The main issue is maximising time on site. But I agree it is worth considering.
