Was just reading about that, March is certainly a busy month for OneWorld, though those angled J seats don't look terribly good.

SriLankan Airlines to join oneworld on March 1

SriLankan Airlines will join the oneworld airline alliance and become a Qantas partner on March 1st, opening up new routes into India for Qantas travellers. A spokesperson for SriLankan confirmed the date to Australian Business Traveller, adding than an official announcement is expected later today.

I've heard rumours that SriLankan is keen to begin MEL-CMB flights and maybe even resume its old SYD-CMB service especially with new A330s and A350s on the way, anybody else heard similar?

Maybe they will become bearable if cheap status credits can be had?

the shot of those seats are not the best - the back goes back a lot further according to other pictures out there - more flat than it appears from the promo (although why they wouldn't show the full flat..)

Flew with them in J from Colombo to Rome then LHR to Colombo in Aug - Sep last year and they were FULL LIE FLAT BEDS, couldn't compliment them enough, when they join OW will always fly with them to Europe

Looks like an easy way into OWS and OWE with their mileage requirements

Looks like an easy way into OWS and OWE with their mileage requirements

40 sectors on a rolling tier certainly does seem easy enough for me. 30 to requalify in fact. This is for OWE.

That said they only have 3 levels with 'blue' not requiring anything to earn so I have a feeling they'll adjust the goal posts or introduce a new level.

It will not 1st March (my underlining). From FT

3. But as it turns out, UL appears to have jumped the gun on their entry in to oneworld – the PR person was a bit too eager and the GDS entry would seem to be not accurate. Oneworld's corp comms manager called me this morning to advise that March 1st is in fact NOT the joining date for UL and they don't expect to announce that date for at least another month (my story on AusBT has been updated accordingly).
My wild guess would be 31 st March with US Airways & TAM

I didn't look that closely but I thought the qualifying sectors in the current program were ONLY on UL.
It will be interesting to see what the program looks like post OW entry.

I keep hoping for CMB-PER... More chance of that than a return of the 2nd QF PER-SIN flights.

Happy wandering

Fred

Re: SriLankan Airlines to join oneworld on March 1

Yes thats correct, UL was suppose to launch MEL last year, then supposedly this year, however they now have pushed MEL-CMB for 2015. There are no plans to serve SYD at this moment in time, UL is only interested in MEL. They are awaiting new aircraft deliveries, hopefully MEL can see them A350's !

UL also operates an office in Melbourne CBD which just only opened last year.

I guess this makes the UL Lounge (Serendib) available for Oneworld elites on the Cathay flights. Would it be a better option than the contracted lounges? I'll be the early May. It will be interesting to see it they're fully understanding of the Oneworld reciprocal rights
