Upon entering Sri Lanka I received this little package when clearing Immigration. Basically it's a free prepaid SIM "with the compliments from the Welfare Association of Dept of Immigration and Emigration".
It has a Rps50 credit on the prepaid SIM.
It has an info pack offering a Rps 499 offer with 1gb, calls and texts which will get me through my 7 days here.
So, I purchased Rps500 of credit but did not have enough to buy the 499 offer

Turns out that when I recharged, the system then took back my initial 'loan' of the Rps50 plus a service fee. Ouch. Considering I hadn't actually used the card, the credit or anything, it was a little bit of a scam. So, to cover the few cents I was short cost me AUD1. NOt the end of the world, just annoying.
Had I just activated the SIM I could have used the RPs 50 without repaying it had I never recharged that SIM.
