SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

And presumably then, we’re only talking about carriers out of Australia. Although JL would have to be up there with their apex-seat flights. Actually… just about anyone except for Air New zealand would have better J seats out of Australia than SQ!
Not necessairy, AF J is not bad, but BA seats are better especially in the upgraded aircraft of which there are now quite a few

Worldwide SQ would rank way down for J class seats!

Yes, as well as AY, BA and QF that I had already mentioned, I really liked the JL seat and I was surprised to like the AI seats (although I was fortunate to have no neighbour on both my longhaul flights - and this was the same seat TK and ET were using)). In the next tier down, I'd put CX, MH, QR, UL, AA. I suspect the SQ J seat wouldn't quite squeeze into that group. The truth is, their seat really isn't that good and they are being carried by both past reputation and excellent soft product.

If it were based on seats alone I’d put AY, BA and QF above SQ.

QR EK CX SQ and controversially BA are the top 5.
Except AF doesn’t fly out of Australia.

I wonder if all of you are tall (say 180cm+)?

I am only 172cm so for me SQ J Long Haul and Regional are fine for me. In fact, I find SQ Regional J to be better for sleeping than the long haul J. So for me, SQ is number 2 behind QR right now for overall J experience. CX is 3rd.

But I understand SQ J is hard to sleep if you are much taller.

Given SQ is catering for Asian markets maybe they don't see the need to cater for tall people who are minority?

I am more than 180cm

I'm 175cm tall and find the SQ J long-haul seats shocking to sleep in.

I don't sleep on a weird angle at home, and don't expect to on a plane

Between the rock hard seat on the A380 and the small footwell, it's not that great

I always grab a few extra blankets to put under the thin mattress topper, and that helps, slightly!

I’m more than 190. I find the SQ regional seats easy to sleep in. The long hauls… nope.

But even if you fit comfortably… whi came up with the stoopid idea of a retractable and heavily tensioned seatbelt for bed mode?

Curious as to why? One obvious thought it’s that you’re very short 🤣

I’m tall so the SQ seats just aren’t right. I even have to sleep on a slight diagonal in SQ’s 777 F :(

I'm average 😂 178cm to be exact. I find that I can get a really great lounging position where my legs are supported in the SQ seats, and also in many of the reverse herringbone designs. I also am a side sleeper so the diagonal sleeping position is fine. The QF seat is okay for sleeping, but as a chair it sucks.

Don’t know what the problem is with SQ J seats. They’re great.

Oh wait, maybe that’s because as I have Solitaire PPS privileges I almost always manage to get a bulkhead row. Makes a huge difference.

But oddly on the flight I had to LHR last week I was the only person occupying one of the 6 D/F bulkhead seats (that I understand are available at checkin if you ask).

The front bulkheads are not available to mere mortals even at check in. The bulkheads at the halfway point might be.

They are! I’ve secured them plenty times! (as in row 11). Trick is to get them at 96 hours out.
I have tried at various points in the 96 hours and found them not available - and they fly out empty - while I have been able to secure the mid cabin bulkheads.

Are you trying only on the SQ website? Or through partner airlines? Have you tried the chat function, or by phone?

I have found the seats blocked on SQ’s site, but available via partner MMB.

Have to say had a mid cabin bulkhead on a regional plane last week and never again - 1 screaming baby next to me, another in Y a few rows back. WIll stick to front cabin going forward, even if it means missing out on bulkhead
