SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

That sums up Singapore in a nutshell. 🤣

SQ are very good at drawing lines in the sand, to contain costs, unlike the ME3/TK who seem to invest more in their lounge products.

In fairness they did invest in two brilliant F lounges, something most airlines don’t offer particularly to F pax who don’t fly with them.

I was in the Singapore Private Room and 1st Class lounge few weeks ago and I must say that I felt a little disappointed. No atmosphere and I don't think that they are as good as the previous rooms. I came away
with the impression that the rebuild was constrained by a budget that was not enough - particularly the
Private Room. We only fly F occasionally and apart from the Suites I don't believe that first class offers
that much more than business except for the expensive wines and you have to drink an awful lot
to justify the ticket price.
Agree that the business class lounge can be a bunfight
at times but if does offer the sleeping area that seems little used.

A few months ago I was lucky enough to find a SYD-SIN-HKG First Saver with SIN-HKG on the A380, so I jumped on it.

Just got a call from SQ today: "Sorry sir, I'm calling to inform you SIN-HKG has been downgauged to the 777".

I explained that I booked this specifically for the A380 Suites, and asked if they could open space on the SYD-SIN leg instead.

"Let me see what I can do sir.."

SQ service just blows me away when I use QF as a baseline.

Well done @sudoer
Fantastic find and now you get to fly Suites on the longer segment 🤩
I agree SQ service is fantastic
Back in Aug23 for I found a First class Saver award syd-sin-lhr which has since had the syd-sin leg downgraded to an A350
Had to make 2 calls to fix, the personal on the second call was extremely helpful & they ended up opening up space on the 7:55am departure.
Its going to be a early start to the morning, so I guess I will have to console myself with some 🍾 in the Private Room.

The first flight timing was clearly incorrect. It’s usually blocked just under hours 8 hours for MEL-SIN.

The original flight block was waaaaay too long!

Hmmm, i cant get my head around all the tine differences but i just looked at the original booking email

SQ 238
Boeing 777-300ER
Singapore Airlines MEL 09:35
23 Jul (Tue)
Melbourne, Melbourne Airport SIN 15:25
23 Jul (Tue)
Singapore, Chang

So are you saying they got the time wrong from the start?
The timing you have posted here is correct. The notification of the schedule change.. a 1945 arrival, is clearly incorrect. That would have given you a 10 hour flight time, when it’s only 8. Just a glitch by the look of it as your confirmation email had the correct flight length.

But now of course leaving 20 mins earlier!

Ahhh you took the worss right out of my mouth:)

Edit:
I accepted the change, and changed the flight to a 1.5hr shorter layover so that the 2nd leg was a a380.

I guess the chances of new suites is still 0% :(

Did anyone canceled award booking recently with expiring points?

Canceled two itineraries yesterday due to IROPs, agent requested to credit back expiring points but said it will take up to six weeks. Policy obviously changed as last time I did it points were credited on the spot with new expiry date. Was wondering how long it should realistically take these days.

WOW - big blow to current travel plans - I need be in Germany for a Trade Show and couldn’t get F out of MEL so booked F/F ex SYD. On the way to MEL yesterday to catch VA flt to o/n in SYD I rcvd text advising equip downgrade 777 to 350 so no F.

Quck search showed 232 380 with 4 spare seats - I spent literally 6hrs on phone begging pleading demanding to be put on 232 as I have zero date flexibility.

Whilst 232 was showing availability is is indeed full so I am screwed.

20D on 350 reg here I come - this’ll be fun 👍👍👍
