A bit concerned when I got an email from SQ this morning that started:

"We regret to inform you that due to operational requirements, we are unable to provide you with the original seat and/or cabin class that you have selected."

However, on checking the booking on-line, our Saver F award LHR-SIN on SQ305, 27 June has been changed from a 777 to a 380 so becomes an R redemption. So smiles all around. Now have a 380 all the way SYD to LHR and back to SIN but still a 777 on the last sector to MEL. Very happy to have secured all as 2xSaver awards given the loading next northern spring/summer.

I think I can now cancel some WL I have out of LHR, FRA and ZRH on June 27 that I was holding as SQ305 is a 0930 departure and an arrival in SIN at 0530. But an upgrade to a 380 makes it worth taking even if I had to make an award connection from ZRH the evening before and have an overnight at the T2 Garden Inn. The saving of 2xLHR Airport Departure Tax easily covers a night at Heathrow.

I have x3 SQ305 booked for next year, all still show 777.

It’s actually became a favourite with HGI T2 overnight layover then 12.5hr daytime fun flight :)

Don’t really mind if it’s 777 or 380, both have their pros and cons. As long as it’s not being downgraded to 350 (had enough of that this year) I'm happy.

Check other days of the week if your plans are flexible. Early in the year when I was searching ready to book for 2 passengers to fly J from SYD to various European cites in February and back to SYD in April I was mostly seeing that Saver award seats were being released for flights Mon - Thu but not usually for Fri, Sat or Sun dates. I was writing down availability for a couple of months leading up the dates I wanted to book to see if there was a pattern to seat release and have just looked back at my notes and see that this was happening consistently on the routes I was checking.

Saver availability sems to be day/route specific for sectors.
For the last 2 months or so I have been watching EWR-SYD. Saver have only been available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; all other days Advantage only, and this is the 350 days out.
I got my 2xJ Saver seats, at rope drop, this week for Thursday 7 December 2023. Savers were gone the next day after.
SQ points are gold. You can get bookings. QF points if you have no status are virtually useless getting to or from AUS, in my experience.

How come they didn't send any e-mail on this? 🤔

They did, it was in the Your KrisFlyer Account Statement email, which in my case was emailed on 12th De.

But it was in the fine print, and so easily missed. I missed it originally and just saw it on the website when I was reviewing my December points.

So I received a call from SQ call centre at about 8-9pm AEST about a schedule change for my flight in June 2023 in First. Really hard to understand what was going on as I was at a wedding and I asked what was the plane change going to be and she said she will have to find out and put me on hold. After about 5 mins on hold I really couldn't be bother waiting so I hung up. It can't really take more than 5 mins to find out the aircraft change if that is the whole reason of the call can it? That should have been info they should have had at the start of the phone call.

Anywho, below is my original flight.

A couple weeks later (mid Sept) I receive this in my email about schedule change of SQ217 to SQ207 and didn't really think much of it except earlier flight. Didn't think about aircraft change at the time and I accepted.

Tonight, as per SQ website, this is what is showing in my booking management.

I really don't understand what is going on as A350 doesn't have FCL? And I'm pretty sure the operator told me the flight will change to SQ207. It's late so I'll have to call tomorrow to figure out what's going on, but they wouldn't reschedule the flight with different aircraft and not tell me there's no FCL in the new aircraft would they?

They certainly will. And if you've accepted it that's the class your going to fly.

They certainly would and you had accepted that flight change unfortunately. It is certainly worth phoning and seeing what the alternatives are though.

To me that looks like you were originally on 217 in F. SQ have changed 217 to an A359 which doesn't have F so they have proactively moved you to the closest flight that does, which is 207.

Ms MEL-World got a similar call last night. The accent was really difficult to understand so we eventually asked to have any changes emailed to us and ended the call. We are flying beginning of July and were originally on SQ217 (then a 777ER) in F but I am on a revenue ticket and partner on an award ticket. (I did not get a call).

When we received the flight change email mid-September, moving us from 217 to the earlier SQ207, I checked why and, on seeing 217 was now a 350 (with no F) and 207 was now the 777ER service, we accepted the changes. We both have an email confirming the change but it has the same ticket number as the original flight.

My only question, I guess, is whether the change of flight and time should generate a new ticket number? Otherwise, I have no idea of why the call.

A quick check for flights on my travel date this morning still shows the same flights with F seats available on SQ207 but not on 217.

I will need to be brief coz 228 very close to push back - there are some posts recently re SYD & MEL checking times - here are official MEL times:
MEL Checkin times
218 - 3hrs pre dep
238 - 3hrs pre dep
228 - 3hrs pre dep
208 - 3hrs pre dep

MEL Lounge opening times
218 - 3hrs pre dep
238 - 3hrs pre dep
228 - 3hrs pre dep
208 - 3hrs pre dep
*Above relates to std checkin counters as opposed to ‘kiosk’ checkin - more on that in later post

SYD is slightly different - technically the same but due to shorter gaps in dep times it almost equates to ‘all day’ checkin as it kinda was pre-Covid I gotta sign off now - more later 👍

Cont:
Check SYD dep times:
212 - 08:55
232 - 12:00
222 - 16:00
242 - 19:05

I cannot remember pre-Covid dep times but I don’t think they varied much from these above - so earliest checkin time is 05:55 with dep 08:55 - add 9 hours to that you get 17:55 so counters are open almost entirety of possible checkin windows - so SQ pretty well decided ‘all day checkin’ and this is still the case now I am informed (Rita called SQ SYD Station to clarify but even they were not sure) - maybe a 1hr window between 232 and 222 where checkin closed - no doubt some SYDsider could clarify?

So just to confirm I can check in/bag drop for SQ222 at 7am if I wanted?
