SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

hmmm, i didnt think timin had anythign to do with waitlists,
I thought it was first come first served,
In general I think this is true although Krisflyer seniority might also have something to do with the clearance of a WL.

I think the previous posters were talking about trying to book close to date of travel and whether WL might clear for them. I do not know how many WLs are accepted across Saver or Advantage awards for a specific flight or class of travel. Obviously more for Y seats than F/R.

I have a 16h20m overnight transit in SIN coming up end of October arriving ~8:45pm and departing ~1:05pm next day. I normally wouldn't transit that long but for ~$200-$300 saving on airfare it was a no brainer.

I've been toying with the idea of heading into a SIN hotel for the night but won't bother. May still head into SIN for a few hours but that's also more hassle than it's worth.

I assume the BNE flight arrives T3 and the BKK flight departs T2. I should be able to stay/sleep in lounge overnight.

Are the KrisFlyer Gold lounges open 24 hours again in all terminals?
Maybe the Village Hotel Changi is your answer. Not far from the airport, plenty of food options, comfy hotel, cheap. We have done that before for a 17 hr transit.

Note that the T2 Gold lounge is not yet re-opened, so the recently re-opened T2 SKL can be accessed by Gold flyers for the moment, which is a nice bonus. It is 24 hrs. But (as jase noted) it can get very busy at times.

First time back at T2 and what an absolute debacle. The taxi driver initially refused to believe T2 was back open for departures and said he hadn’t been back there yet but once I showed him the SQ app listing the terminal number he came to his senses. J check in took over 1hr with 1x F counter and 3x J counter. Eventually they opened another 3x J counters otherwise we would still be there now.
Construction still ongoing and probably a 5-10 minute walk to the SilverKris lounge. Lounge was an absolute zoo with no spare seats and people just standing around in the corridor’s. Gold lounge isn’t completed yet so all eligible passengers sent to SilverKris lounge but as we were entering I heard the staff say to the group in front of us that they were about to start restricting entrance until some flights departed.
Food was very good but line up of about 20 for coffee so gave it a miss. Boarding at gate F58 which is about 15 minutes away so going to head off soon
Can confirm long lines for check in at 7:50am yesterday (Sunday) but there are plenty of kiosks so we had our borading passes issued (HLO) and were through immigration and heading to the SKL inside five minutes.

Can also confirm T2 SKL was a zoo at 8am, but by 9am it was virtually empty as many flights were departing between 8:45 and 9:30am. Great selection of food and the Piper Heidseick went down well.

Thanks. If I had to stay anywhere I prefer Geylang. I haven't researched it in great detail but looks like the cheapest room is AUD130/night. Add cost there and back and it starts to add up.

I can't justify spending that much for a hotel.

Plan is to head over to T3 KrisFlyer Gold lounge and find a corner somewhere down the back and have a nap. I've done that many times. I can sleep anywhere.

Off topic but I haven't been following exchange rates but when did the AUD devalue so much against the SGD? I recall it reached $1.30 and now $0.89!

Don't think it's been those levels for nearly a decade!

Was at near parity when we went last month, even down since then jeez

Unlike AUD, SGD is anchored somewhat to USD (as is MYR), so when the Greenback goes up relative to the AUD, so does the SGD.

Can F passengers bring a guest to TPR?

We are flying SYD-SIN-DEL, I am in F and the family is in J (wife, son, daughter).
I know that guesting all 3 wont be allowed. But wondering if I can guest my son, he is 10 if that helps.

Maybe to the F lounge but not to the TPR.
Just son... Maybe you might get lucky as he is a minor

You'd likely be more comfortable in F lounge - TPR 10 days ago felt like going into a church or holy place except with muzak - sshh.. and reports above suggest SKL will be super busy, depending on your time of day..

I have forgotten the rules for this one.

If I book a flight award booking and the first flight is not on offer yet as it’s from another star alliance carrier can I get this added to the award booking later on or do I need to make a completely new booking.

example
A>B>C

Flight A not on sale yet
Flight B with SQ is on sale
Flight C with SQ is on sale

I recall making bookings like this in the past with all flights on offer at the time, just don’t recall if I was able to or needed to add an extra flight after the initial booking was made.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Not sure if that helps

Hey Zerogravitas. I waitlisted 3 flights end September and one cleared within a few days, so was able to secure a flight in J. If you have not already booked AMS try and see availability for BCN as per your original plan. Cheers.
Thanks Cagiva - in the end I booked from AMS and it actually works out pretty well - my partner has never been before so I pushed departure back a few days and she can check out the Van Gogh Museum and a few other bits and bobs... Thanks for the feedback though, good to know for next time at least!

On SQ flights in the past one of the absolute joys was being offered and served satay sticks while in J.

Last week I flew BNE-SIN and SIN-CDG and not a satay stick in sight.

Was I just unlucky or is this how things are now?

I love them! They aren't on all flights, but I've always had them ex-SIN. Were you on a breakfast flight? Did the menu say you should have been served them?

Flights departed just before and just after midnight.
At least a Singapore Sling was available.
