SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Well I still haven't received any word back from KF as to whether our award flights from HND on 12/5 were cancelled despite first phone contact on 20/2 -we will get back to you.
First online form sent off 10/3-sorry too far ahead can't do anything.
Resent on 15/3 and a further 6 since then. No response.
Call back after complaint submitted on 20/4. But sorry I can't do anything about it I will get the correct department to call you back.Still waiting.
Call to correct department on 6/5 from lounge in SIN only to be told we no longer cancel flights overe the phone you have to do it online except I had told him I was trying to do that but it kept saying you need to call your local SQ office to cancel this flight.
Finally on9/5 I could complete the online cancellation and did it 4 times before Thursday and each time getting an automated message that we will let you know in 7 business days iwhen your trip will be cancelled.
No reply to my last official complaint after these shenanigans.
Making QFF look efficient.

Here ya go - check the wisdom in SQ’s decision to downsize R 12 to 6 - I want 2 R comm tix o/w ZRH-SIN Jun 24 - ZERO availability - check other dates also when just searching for single seat:

At the moment, I'm guessing many travellers are buying up to F and R from business class. Premium cabins on most routes are just full to the brim and fares crazy (SIN-BNE and v.v. being a notable exception).

There is a serious lack of competition for the travel at the moment, into and out of Singapore, with massive recovery in demand from business travellers (into and out of SIN) and leisure travellers (particularly out of SIN).

Going towards US SQ basically have a monopoly on Singapore-US premium travel, with virtually no CX, no BR/CI, and Japanese carriers still operating (very full) reduced services to the US out of Tokyo, and limited services out of SIN.

Eastbound, pre-pandemic EK had 4x daily, this month 7x weekly. QR used to have 3x daily and now 10xweekly. BA used to have daily 777 & A380, now a daily 787 (and QF's A380 is not operating yet to LHR). LX only operating 3x weekly to ZRH instead of daily. LH operating A340's to FRA instead of A380. TG operating 10x weekly between SIN & BKK and these are not timed for onwards connections to Europe. The list goes on. SQ who are operating much closer to normal schedule than before (and more services to the US than pre-pandemic with the addition of SIN-JFK nonstop) certainly seem to be selling most of their seats.

If you look at expert flyer even a month out, there are many flights with zeroes. And if there are seats they are in the F, Z, Y/B (full fare) fare classes. Except for BNE!

I’d call back and push again. Their own conditions of carriage require you to be moved to the closest available in the event of a cancellation. I’ve had the call centre stuff that up before but it does get fixed, just need to be firm.

Success! I didn't say anything different from the first time. Waited until weekday singapore working hours to increase the chance of someone with authority working. One call cannnot resolve the issue these days with them. Thanks again.

Thought you’d get there in the end! It’s very frustrating though.

I see 2 suites available SIN - SYD SQ231 08/05/23 if anyone is interested at 155,000 points each.
Not worth it for a midnight flight IMHO but YMMV.

I'm about to cancel 3x saver J on SQ222 on 2/7/22 (first day of NSW school holidays) SYD to SIN, if anyone is interested...
Yes! Given the sky-high fares at the moment I'm interested in burning some miles. I've just had a look but Saver is unavailable and Advantage is waitlist only. Have you hit the trigger yet?

Cancelled award seats don't necessarily become available as award seats again!
Presumably they would/could also get gobbled up by “Waitlisted” bookings?

You could be right, but waitlists aren't always an exact science at SQ. There are plenty of times I've been sitting on the waitlist and gone to check the website, only to find the flight is immediately available for confirmation for a new booking...

Generally speaking if three J seats have been cancelled, I'd expect the option to waitlist to show up again, but it's extremely unlikely they'll re-open these seats for immediate confirmation given how full flights are for July.

Yeah. Cancelled 2min after I posted the above
Perhaps keep checking few times a day? Not sure how it would come back in the system

if you want to travel in June - SQ have their "promo" fares on again - Australian ones only available ex-DRW and CNS. You can then get cheaper paid fares ex-various Asian cities.

I was looking at these as we are heading to Europe (MUC first port of call) in late June (on SQ J award seats) and I'm worried about testing positive for CV a fewer days prior. So I've been thinking about contingency plans if forced to delay by up to 7 days. (Part of the plan is to semi-isolate in the 2 weeks prior then buy a paid fare - not sure if insurance will cover this).

You shouldn’t need to test for travel to Germany via Singapore?

I've just had a look again and it's only allowing me to waitlist in Saver for SQ 212 at 0755. Will keep an eye on it but thanks for the heads up.

That flight is only selling 3 seats in Z class, the highest commercial business class fare (and 5 in economy, none in PE or F). I’d say extremely unlikely saver business awards will be coming back to the flight.

So my 3 are now being sold as Z class then sounds like

I’ve been looking for some J redemptions from HBA to anywhere in SE Asia and the only ones that come up go via BNE. Is there something I don’t know about BNE-SIN? Is it a less-popular plane?

I would rather go via MEL because it’s much quicker and easier but they’re just not coming up.

We have 4 A350 900s a day from BNE. With smaller travelling populations than SYD or MEL. So virtually always 1 of those flights will have J saver fares. The flights are a mix of regional or long haul configurations.
