SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

So many Covid forced changes that SQ have implemented not by choice but purely by financial forces.

Pre-Covid ALL J pax would have a set of slippers, socks, eye mask etc positioned in seats prior to boarding. On many flts up to 50% of these items were simply not utilised by pax and left unused in seats after dep.

Cleaners would salvage any unopened / unused items where possible and they would be returned to inventory - post Covid every pax extra item that could possible be handled by pax MUST be summarily consigned to trash during aircraft clean post flight.

So such amenities will not be waiting for you in seat when you board but are also now available 'on demand' to pax. Now I can already hear the responses coming again just cost cutting by SQ and yes this is a finance forced change but seriously reqd IMHO - how could any company tolerate sheer waste because pax might have touched these items.

We now live in a different world huh?

Now as for the WiFi on 217 yesterday just DISGRACEFUL. For last 4 hrs of flight just no WiFi connection at all - I was trying to update that TR but unable to do so.

I exhausted the 100MB of free WiFi so tried to purchase additional 200MB for USD14.99 but just as it was processing the WiFi cut out and could not complete transaction. So ZERO WiFi rest of journey - imagine the transaction completing then not being able to use it? This has been a problem on SQ for years - I was constantly sending feedback pre-Covid and they just kept refunding me - I just don't get it?

Why offer ir if you cannot guarantee to deliver? Is it the same on other carriers? Other routes? It is just not acceptable to try to take money from pax for a service that you cannot guarantee to deliver.

Is there any AFFer who actually does know the ins and outs of WiFi delivery in the air?

Flights in and out of Perth are also crazy. Really hard to get a seat at times - at that’s with 3 flights a day now. Some 787 changed to A350 as well.

Please let me be 100% clear - I am no expert on 350s as I have only ever done 2 or 3 sectors and each time it has been on the version with the staggered 'REGIONAL' J fitout - onboard Crew refer to this version as 'MID HAUL' rather than 'REGIONAL' - the 350s with more traditional fitout Crew refer to as 'DIAMOND SEATS' - I have never seen or experienced this version.
I could ask Mrs&MissM to write to write a TR on the SQ a350 seat types but I do not think it will happen. They are booked MEL-SEA, then EWR-ADL and at the moment all flights are on a350s and they will fly on all of the 3 seat layout types being the regional/mid haul, the standard/diamond seats on the stock and ULH layout. It is all in J

How do we interpret the word 'stopover' when studying the Star Alliance award redemption chart?
does it mean a layover >24 hours, or does it mean any journey with 2 segments?

I want to fly from BKK-DUB (or SIN-DUB) with a stop in either MUC, FRA, or IST depending on whichever one I can get on, all are about the same. None of these journeys pop up on the booking page. I figure i will just have to full out the manual form and wait.

According to KF website there will be 4x777 on the MEL/SIN route from Oct 30. Time to update the business plan :)
And the web site may be correct - OR - may not be - I remember sitting with some dude in Olive Tree not so long ago who was crying into his Wagyu eye fillet non stop for 3 hours because he booked an F flt on pts on web site a fair way out but when getting closer time F product disappeared as metal changed - it does happen - as a community service I am happy to post what info I glean but also happy not to post - either way no biggie

Travelling SYD-SIN next week on SQ. Does anyone know if the lines are still long for document checks? And would being *G allow me to skip the line at all?
Well if you are *G you have lounge access and can check-in in J queue even if flying Y - so get your docs in order and get there imm check-in opens and you won't have many if any in front of you.

Hi all, I've got a redemption for FRA-SIN-SYD for October in J Saver. I wanted to change it to another departure city, same redemption rate an the flight appeared to be available online. When attempting the change, all fields were available except the departure point. I called, it was a decent wait to get through, and they advised "we have to send this to another team". Sing took all the details down and said they would get back to me a few days ago. Doesn't sound all that hopeful right? Anyone with any experience in doing this? As far as I know, Saver redemptions can be changed with a small fee.

Yes aircraft changes can happen and normally it wouldn’t be a big deal if one has a bit flexibility. SQ policy about aircraft changes is moving pax to another aircraft as long as there is Advantage availability (even if the original booking is in Saver) but it does require reaching someone who knows how to do it. These days it’s not easy to reach SQ over the phone, let alone a capable agent, something that definitely complicate things.

Patience is key these days, it’s not easy to HUACA after waiting over an hour to get connected but once reaching the right agent your original F seat on 777 which was downgraded to 350 can magically transform into a suite on 380 :)

Geez, I hope this doesn’t happen to me currently in 1A. In 3 weeks. 😬. Mind you, I MUCH prefer the old config of seating / bed.

I have been booked to fly SYD-LHR in February on SQ242/306, both 777 flights in F after originally booking to fly in J. Last week I noticed that there was Saver availability for SQ208 MEL-SIN (777) onto SQ308 SIN-LHR on a 380. (There was no Saver availability showing at that stage for SYD-LHR on any flights connecting to SQ308 on the date I am travelling). I called early one morning and moved my booking to the MEL-LHR flights so I could have the opportunity to travel in Suites on a 380. I live in SYD but was happy to fly to MEL for this opportunity since I have never flown in F.

I then asked if I could change to or wait list to go on SQ242 SYD-SIN, the flight I was originally booked on in F to see if I could fly from SYD rather than MEL and she said it is available now (since it is the seat I had just cancelled) and she checked and came back and said all flights to and from Australia are not allowed to be un-married so I was not able to change to the SYD-SIN flight.

Yesterday I had to call SQ about a booking for Mrs Ken1 and on the same call I asked if I can change my MEL-SIN leg to SYD-SIN since SQ242 was showing as available in F Saver. I didn't mention that I was told last week that this was not possible because of married segments. He said yes and proceeded to change the booking so I'm now flying from SYD which will make it a lot easier.

The previous times I have called SQ it was usually around 6am or 7am SYD time so 3am or 4am SIN time and wait times were usually not long. I read somewhere recently that the more experienced staff are more likely to be on duty during SIN business hours so I phoned yesterday at 2pm SYD time and was on hold for two and a half hours but it was worth it so it's definitely worth calling again.

I've read that SQ are not currently charging fees for changes and I haven't been charged any fees for when I changed from a J booking to F and then changed the F booking again.

Should be fine. Changes are currently free under the Covid flexible booking policy: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/...tre/complimentary-rebooking/#/book/bookflight

I changed some redemption bookings last year (moved them from 2021 to 2022) and it was the same deal: had to wait for some other team to recalculate the taxes and points cost and wait for a call back. In each case after the initial call they had reserved the new itinerary for me (it showed up in manage booking as Reserved in addition to the existing Confirmed/Ticketed sectors).

I changed dates on the outward leg and both the destination and arrival points on the return leg. Outward had a tax difference to pay--they called me back a few days later to charge me. The return leg where I had changed the routing was just a points difference but I had exactly the right number of points waiting in my account and in that case they just deducted the additional points and confirmed the new booking without calling me back.

Does anybody know if the A380 J bulkhead seats are made available to non status passengers for selection at some point in the days leading up to each flight? Would love to give the double bed a go.

Hello and apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this question but I am looking to make a KF redemption booking for 2 from Sydney to Manchester at the end of May. There are seats available at 53000 points each Sydney to Frankfurt on SQ and then Lufthansa availability to Manchester. Does this have to be 2 separate bookings or just 1 ticket I would need to phone to book right through and how many points should it be?
