SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have trawled a lot over the web and fail to understand this - could someone please help me out as trying to call SQ at the moment is genuinely impossible. Line is either engaged or waiting music for over an hour to no avail.

0 Points balance because I used it all on Current Booking.
Current Booking: SYD-SIN-LHR in J on points
Confirmed Waitlist has come through: SYD-CBR-SIN-LHR in J on more preferable date for us, same amount of points; however, the taxes are more for this.

What is the process here? Is it ordinarily to Cancel the current booking (incurring a fee) and then confirming the waitlist flight?
Couple of things on that:
1) My only fear for that is if the points don't get put back in to my account in time.
2) It seems to suggest an $122 AUD fee per pax to do this? and yet the amount that it says it will refund me is (Original taxes) ~$35. ... so, hardly a fee of $122 per pax?

So instead if I try confirm the waitlist flight it says I don't have enough points - because I dont, they are used in the original booking. Though it will let me proceed to payment area where I can enter my card details.
- This implies that it might charge me the full taxes, so then I will still need to action a refund on my original booking?

Sorry if any of that was confusing. Any help would be much appreciated on process from here.
Impossible to understand without the ability to call SQ.

Cheers

Canceling my 2 x J reward flights for April & May 2019;

Worth phoning to argue about the $122pp charge, considering its gonig to take hours on the phone.

Thats what I thought, like some sort of Nigerian scam letter where we'll give you a million if you give me $278 first.

The next screen after the above asks for Credit Card information to make payment

@Denali, Did this turn out to be a 'just so' scam and you had to pay to get yr points back on a flight that they cancelled?

I finally managed to get through to speak to a person about our cancelled MEL-SIN-cough J rewards booked for tomorrow night. Lovely operator gave two options - keep the ticket open or cancel, and due to the nature of the cancellations, she'd waive the $75 USD Fee per passenger fee.

I said cancel, and then I almost gulped when she said it would take 4 months to return both the points and the taxes.

Now, I'm not worried about the timeframe as I've got other miles with shorter expiry to use, but seriously... 4 months? Anyone else come across such a long timeframe?

For reference, I cancelled my mums LHR-SIN-MEL J trip due late June, and points and taxes were back inside 5 days. This was done online - I couldnt do it for my itinerary.

Well done on getting through :) and that sounds very reasonable re cancellation option (different to what was reported on another thread), so that's good to hear --- I'm also surprised about the 4 months wait to return points, but I guess we probably won't be using reward flights for quite a while now in any case!!

Sorry if this is a nieve question, but exactly what does the 'keep the ticket open' mean in practice? (a member on the other forum suggested that one of the advantages of not cancelling tickets is that SQ may do a large devaluation on the other side of this, so I assume keeping tickets open provides a benefit in that regard)

The operator I spoke with said the open ticket would be subject to movement in points and taxes. I thought what's the point - I'll just cancel as save the hassle.

Its kinda sad to think I could've been on my way to Japan right now.

What time did you call to get through, I’d like to just get the points (and cash) back? Maybe you got through quickly because the flight was coming up in a day or so?

Must have been about 4.30pm aedt. I tried out of luck as everytime I'd called them, it didn't even ring - just said line busy.

I emailed because the phone rang engaged. Cancelled our Suites ride London to Singapore. They cancelled our flight Singapore to Perth so we wouldn’t get home.
So pleased we went Qatar to get home much earlier than we had planned.

Did you lose any points or money cove?

We still need to do that for our suites SYD-LHR-SYD - couldn't drag me on one these days.

May not get the Kris Miles back but that’s ok. I am relaxed about having used AA Miles on Qatar. That cost about $500 USD to go business to Doha and first Doha to Perth. We were the only two in the 8 berth cabin so we used two seats each. Yes to Krug, caviar and crayfish .....
SQ are trying to raise 8.8 billion SG this week in a share issue. I do hope they succeed.

I have also cancelled 5 bookings this way over last couple weeks - all smooth sailing - pts and $s progressively appearing back in account - OR - you can call and wait on the phone for extended periods of time.

Anyone ever done SIN-HKG in J or F on the 777? Worth a KF miles redemption?

I realise everything is up in the air at the moment and we don’t know what the world will look like in the future but with this being the missing piece in our Dec/Jan routing puzzle I’m still interested in locking something (cancellable) in. Can currently book a J saver and waitlist for F on our required date.

Got a seat change notification from 12A to 12K on my August flight to Taipei. Had a wry smile but hoping it might be an omen.

Emailed SQ as advised by CE at post 783. Asked nicely for a full refund of all points and cash. They still want to charge a redeposit fee of points.
Not happy about that USD75.
Any suggestions on how to get out of the redeposit fee? Happy to get PMs if we are keeping this in-house.

Here's the response :

Thank you for your email to Singapore Airlines.
We would like to inform you that there will be a redeposit fee USD 75 for cancellation of Saver award ticket.

Nevertheless, we are pleased to share that you are eligible for the following options under our current travel waiver policy:

Retain the value of your ticket for future travel
You may wish to keep your ticket open-dated and rebook your travel at a later time when you are able to firm up your new travel plans.

Rebook your travel now
If you have an upcoming travel plan in mind, you may submit your rebooking request now, indicating your new date of travel or alternative destination.

Please note that your new travel should be completed by 31 March 2021, and a fare difference may apply if there is a change in destination or availability of a fare type.

In both options, rebooking fees will be waived.

I too have emailed, but have yet to receive a reply. Was your flight one they cancelled? Or one that you want to cancel?

Please note that your new travel should be completed by 31 March 2021,- Given that a vaccine may or may or not be out by then that is too tight a deadline for me.

In my email, I said something along the lines of 'when you cancel it'. It is not till May, so I'll be waiting till the 72 hours before the flight unless there's other advice.
I want to travel in late April / May.
It still shows in the SQ 'MMB'. Good thinking on the vaccine, but the SQ date of end March is 12 months away.
