SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I notice that first class /suites award seats are easier to find on flights which depart from outside of Australia. Particularly where there are multiple daily departures (ie. London)
I guess in Australia, like the US, there are lots of big sign up bonuses and credit cards which allow you to transfer over to Krisflyer. So, first class award tickets go very quickly here. I am hoping to snag first class award seats from LHR next July myself.

More help please gang, I have booked a reward flight in J on SQ with Virgin, when I go on manage my flight on SQ there is no Book the cook options and my 10 year old son is down as a adult and I can't put his correct birth date on his details? Is this due to being booked on Virgin?

Had first experience on SQ A350 business class on Saturday on MEL-SIN SQ208. Can't say I liked the seats too much. The pitch is tight. And although the screen is great with good resolution at that size it is nearly too close. The bigger issue was when I flipped over the bed for a few hours kip towards the end. I am not tall, 175, and found the footwell just to tight and uncomfortable. Every slight movement and I kicked against the shell. Service was awesome, but not convinced by the hard product. With the angle you sleep on for all intensive purposes it is reverse herring bone, but not done as well.

I still think the best J seat out there I have had the pleasure of using is on CX and BR. Love those seats. Great space around the shoulders and no footwell.

100% agree. if you can, try and get yourself a bulkhead on the way back and report in - big difference, particularly for a red eye

Sure is. On your booking confirmation there is a SQ booking number. Find this and then give the SQ call centre a ring and they can fix everything for you.

Agreed. I few the A350 for the first time in J return over the last week. Both overnight flights.

The aircraft itself is very nice and quiet. However, due to the narrowness of the aircraft some severe compromises have been made fitting the J seat. I am 185 and I found the footwell far too narrow - actually gave me pains in my leg. My feet also got stuck trying to roll over. I have size 12 feet. I mentioned this to the CSM and he mentioned that there have been many complaints.

Luckily, I was in row 11 centre on the return. This is the perfect seat. Even the two window seats in row 11 don't have the bench that the 777-300ER have.

So basically, unless you're in row 11 centre seats you're potentially in for a torrid time. Not sure I'd like to do the Sin-SFO 17+ hours in this seat.

First world problem I know.

I don't believe it is caused by the aircraft. I reckon it is just the SQ seat design. It looks nice and big and wide but that width has compromised what is essentially the 'offset' to the seat in front which is common with all these 1-2-1 products.

I know SQ likes to maintain a unique position in the market, but they may have done that to the detriment here by not properly testing the seat for long haul sleeping.

Fresh back from CDG suites all the way thanks to points transfer from VFF - the pjs and bags the two of us got have been the subject of much 'negotiation by our three teens.

SQ bags now an endangered item.

If about to contemplate/book a suites trip via SIN then thoroughly recommend allowing a long layover to get the full experience from "The Private Room".

Not necessarily the 'best there is' but having it all to ourselves for around 5 hours of our long layover was fun to say the least. Nothing like having the staff battling to please!

Also a novelty to 'lower yourself' and nip into the First class lounge for the ice-cream selection...

TPR was heaving when we were there in the late PMs (all euro departures I guess?). Was truly packed. No where in TPR for two people to sit near each other either? We 'downgraded' to the First lounge for awhile.

It obviously varies a lot! On one occasion a few months ago, I literally had it to myself (around 6pm); in fact it freaked me out a little and I went back to the F lounge.
