SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

What is the guesting policy into TPR? As long as on same flight?

At Changi:

TPR: SQ First Class Only (AND they mean First Class pax only).

SKL First Class Lounge: SQ First Class + 1 guest, SQ Solitaire + 1 guest, *A First Class**

SKL Business Class Lounge: SQ Business Class, SQ PPS + 1 guest, *A Business Class**

Star Gold Lounge: SQ Gold + 1 guest, *A Gold + 1 guest, Virgin Plat/Gold + 1 guest, etc. (e.g. everyone else).
** Where the carrier has the requisite arrangement with SQ.

NB - Guesting rules generally require the guest to be flying SQ or MI, or at the very least a *A partner. Check the SQ website for more details.

At Other airports: The SKL is generally 1 lounge (with all of the above enjoying the same access). Some airports (e.g. MEL) have an "F" side or area, which carries the same access rules as the first lounge (First Class, Solitaire, etc).

FWIW, In most cases you can visit a "lesser" lounge (e.g. have your lobster and Champagne in the TPR then move to join a guest in the F or J lounges).

So, if I am in say the TPR, I can get people into the lounges you mention and discreetly leave them there whilst I go off into SIN, or back to the TPR or whatever?
Well yes - but you can get 1 person into SKL F Lounge. I guess you could leave them there but bear in mind you are really responsible for them whilst they are there. Would I guest someone in and then head into SIN - probably not - but we are all grown ups and free to make our own decisions.

Although the Singapore lounges can be a bit confusing for the first time visitor, having so many lounges at their home port means SQ spread people out giving each lounge it's own look and feel.

TPR and the SKL First Lounge feel more tranquil and quiet (thanks to reduced pax headcount, and more staff per pax).

Agree - probably not worth the hassle.

More a case of two people being able to enjoy the lounge together. (e.g. parent in F, child in Y - might lounge together in SKL F, rather than TPR and terminal respectively).

Ok, good point. Thanks.

My wife and 7mo little girl had a short trip to Singapore for one of her family members wedding (that I couldn't make due to work) from which they returned today. I'd booked a J saver for the Mrs and bub was obviously an infant fare.

On the flight back back from SIN-PER, my wife was seated in the bassinet row next to somebody else, which is what she was expecting. Seeing her traveling alone with our daughter, the IFS (from what she told me) asked if she'd like to move to a seat with nobody next to her for more space. So the crew helped carry all of her stuff into the 2nd J cabin which was empty! The crew checked on them repeatedly, would play with our daughter, dimmed all the lights in the cabin so that she could sleep - really went above and beyond by the sounds of it.

Gotta love SQ! We'll be sending in some positive feedback about the crew to SQ.

Wow, that must have been a blessed relief and so comfortable for your wife and bubba.

That's just wonderful. Gotta love that even though SQ crews have this mega reputation for consistent service quality, you can still be delighted by a great experience.

Have always had good experiences traveling with my son with SQ, so pleased to hear your wife had a good experience also Arrow29

I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to book some award flights right now.

Getting all sorts of errors, particularly this ambiguous one:

Has anyone found a workaround for this, other than calling? I'm booking it all under my mother's account so that might make doing it over the phone difficult.

I'd suggest trying the mobile apps if you have access to one. I always try and use the iOS version whenever the website has issues and it seems to work just fine (also gives me more award options at times).

I'm going through a BlackBerry phase* at the moment, so unfortunately not an option :(. Are there reports of the mobile site getting better availability too?

*OT: I came from an iPhone, and will be going back to an iPhone but didn't want to miss the BB generation with their beautiful hard keyboards. Total piece of cough OS though.

So after trying a few more options and getting a range of different errors I'm starting to pull my hair out.

I finally call and after explaining the error, I'm told they still won't be able to honour the 15% discount. WTF?

I'm then told I have to email "proof" of the error and call back. This worked out, but seriously? I know it's SIN but seems like an unnecessary amount of work considering their website can be very error-prone at times, particularly as they re-design it.
