SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have only ever tried Sydney Vancouver on AC route in J but never found availability but could have booked Y using SG points.

Didn't actually book as I got F on QF11 to LAX then AA which was more fun

My apologies to SQ community - as posted earlier I am crossing to the dark side next week - CX J MEL-HKG-PVG - AA booking on legacy pts from USDM days - I did have SQ F booked but cancelled - then QF J home - seriously going to be an eye opener this trip. Saddest thing is no TPF to or fro - serious withdrawal symptoms already.

CE u may need to warn your taste buds about some changes in bubbles coming!!

I have been thinking of checking out using Air Asia Miles ( have heaps of points sitting at Westpac Altitude) for One World redemptions rather than using QF points, so will be interested to see how u compare the CX product.

maybe a TR?

I did get 2 x o/w *A rdpts LH J VLC-FRA-FLR finalised this morn - 27,500 KF pts ea + S$179.80ea - thanks Elly you are a star.

But no *A rdpt availability on LH on Jul 2 to position back in FRA for dep back to Oz Jul 3 - bummer - have to keep working on that one - then it's R/F FRA-SIN-MEL - unless somehow magically LH F opens up for us - am going to take MEL's advice and give it a try.

I was not really taken by the LH product last year Cruiser, albeit in PE. You'll have an FA attitude adjustment. To top it off I had a faulty IFE which meant no entertainment SIN-FRA. How LH dealt with it was lacklustre to be complimentary.

LH probably won't suit your travelling style. While it is a step beyond SQ F, it is very different. I'm not sure you will enjoy it as much as SQ.
The lounge and other associated trimmings will make it worth while MEL - I have 2 dep out of FRA - Jul 3 with Cruiserette and Sep 5 on my lonesome - will try to exp LH on either if we/I can.

This may appear OT as it is a Q directly about TG but intention is to link a TG flt with a SQ sector so forgive me pls.

Do TG still fly the 380 to SYD or are they 747 services only now? If YES to 380 - any certainty as to which flts?

Only 747

Most I understand are refitted but if you jag an old one- ouuch it really is a shocker F Class like the old 4 class QF 747

To be fair the TG 'old F' only has 10 seats compared to QF's 14. There is a lot more space in the TG version.

The old TG galley is loud and close to the seats inF.

You will definately get a better experience on a modern J product on another carrier

There were only two of us in the TG 747 SYD - BKK. We had some good lobster and a lot of caviar. We each had our 'own' ensuite as there were only the 2 of us. The service was caring and we were driven everywhere and had the professional spa in BKK.

Well - each to their own I guess. The TG galley is located farther away from the cabin than on QF. Maybe the noise carries with the different layout.

I can't agree that the nose of the 747 with spacious flat seats beats business class on any other carrier. Except maybe for the IFE screen :)

Cruiser, those SQ girls are going to snub you when you return...professional pride and all that.

United is showing plenty of coach availability on UA metal for various times of the day. Those should be easy to book. As far as Air Canada Rouge goes it seems you might be out of luck as per the FB post.
MEL thanks for your guidance - 50K United Miles to secure 2 x Premium Rouge seats + A$14.50 so we are all set.

Does anyone have tips around changing their seat to a more preferable one? A bit of a late booking (flights in 3 weeks) and the only available seat on two of my flight were in the middle of three. I've checked daily for a few days now, and nothing new has opened up. I figure once check in starts 48H before it might be different, since those that booked via agents can amend their seating then?

Or would it be more prudent to call customer service and see what can be done directly?

(Standard economy seats for flights Melbourne to Singapore)

SQ are notorious for only having a small selection of seats available for advance selection. Set your alarm for when OLCI opens and hope for the best

Thought so, hence was checking every few days to see if new selections were "released" like for sporting events.

Is it pretty much to the 48hrs before scheduled departure or check in opens? Might as well time it down to the minute.
