SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I would be grateful if someone could confirm the points required for a SGN-SIN-SYD redemption (in J Saver SGN-SIN) and F Saver Suite (SIN-SYD). My best guess is that it should be charged at the F saver rate (ie the highest class of the trip) of 75,000KF points less the 15% - so 63,750KF points plus taxes etc. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? KF say the cost is 95,000KF points before the discount (20,000 J for SGN-SIN and 75,000F for SIN-SYD).
You are 100% correct - mixed class J/F Saver rdpt SGN-SIN-SYD is 95K pts and as it cannot be booked online you are still eligible for the 15% discount.

You clearly spoke to an inexperienced agent - this is readily booked as an F Saver and does not require 2 separate bookings - all F benefits will flow to you on the J sector. Call up again and if you do not get this info conveyed to you ask for a Manager / Team Leader.

Thanks Cruiser, will call again.

When you think you can book the itinerary on J for 55000 points it makes sense that mixed class should not require two separate bookings.

Just to confirm its 75k points required?

I have an SQ story...
When I was flying back from Narita, Japan we got all the way to the runway queue and one of the passengers was obviously freaking out so badly they turned around, took the plane back to the gate, unloaded the passenger(s), bag(s) and then flew back out.. time lost was about an hour but we arrived 5 minutes early :)
Loving SQ :) :)

YES as per SQ Award Chart Zone 7 Japan and South Korea to Zone 9 Australia (excl Perth & Darwin & New Zealand) F Saver rdpt 75K KF pts less 15% as cannot be booked online.

You sure there were no macadamia nuts involved? :p

So I thought I would provide an update on booking a mixed redemption with SQ.

Second time calling it could not have been easier. Cruiser if you are grooming an SQ KF contact, the girl I dealt with (Yunxin) was excellent. Told her what I wanted, she put me on hold and a few minutes later it was booked. Correct number of points 1st time no questions asked, paid the taxes and charges, done and dusted in 5 minutes including emailing the itinerary for confirmation while on the phone.

The long and short, thanks to a bunch of very generous souls on AFF contributing their experience, is that I get to fly J overseas for the first time ever BNE-HAN (have flown J domestically).

But even better I get to come back come back in J/R to SYD. Needless to say R is a first ever.

Initially I was looking to fly F out of MEL or F/R out of SYD after positioning from BNE, but availability and timing just wasn't there so settled for certain J from BNE.

Really looking forward to this trip. :D

Will give a report on my F saver booking Melbourne to Amsterdam on SQ 238 on 26 November in several posts. Was my first trip in F and arrived at the airport full of excitement. Check in process was quick and I did ask for the TPR invitation and the check in agent did not know anything about it and directed me to customer service. As I wanted to get to the lounge quickly did not bother.

Security and customs at around 9.00am was chaotic compared to Brisbane. There were long lines at both security (express card notwithstanding) and customs. Took about 20 minutes from check in to get to the lounge where I was greeted warmly and directed to the F lounge. Found the lounge comfortable and good selection of food and drink. The champagne was Moet and enjoyed some dim sum. Had previously checked that including myself there were only 4 passengers in F. About 12 people ended up in the F lounge. Would expect the others were there due to status.

Left around 11.00 for the walk to boarding (took around 5 minutes) and there was a long line already for boarding for F/J. A couple pushed in front of me in the line and shortly after an angel walked along the line checking boarding passes and upon seeing my red pass escorted me to the front of the line which had just commenced boarding. Did not look back at the couple that had pushed in front of me!

Upon showing my red boarding pass was warmly greeted and escorted to my seat 2A. Crystal introduced herself and told me flight details and confined my BTC Barramundi. Then asked the words I had been waiting to hear - Dom or Krug? Asked for the Krug. Edmond then introduced himself and wished me a pleasant flight.

Once in the air I tried the Dom. Preferred the Dom. Food and service were outstanding. The 3 other passengers were a youngish Asian couple and a young Asian lady.

After lunch and watching a movie Crystal asked me if I wanted a rest and she made up my bed in 1A. Was able to get around an hours sleep.

Even though it was a daytime flight was handed the sleep suit and a salvatore ferragamo bag with toiletries.

More to come with TPR visit and the flight to AMS.

Seems about spot on so far Moffat - close my eyes and I can visually see every step.

Glad you are enjoying so far - will be dep MEL next Sat so I will again raise the TPR invitations with SQ staff in airport whilst I am there.

There is simply no need for a TPR invitation, it's printed on your boarding pass for the ongoing flight. You show your boarding pass at the KF lounge at changi and then you are taken straight to TPR, what do you need another piece of paper for?

Great souvenir for first time / occasional fliers - we all understand it's not reqd to gain entry to TPR but I have arranged invitations for quite a few R/F pax who were never offered them at check in and they were tickled pink when they actually received their 'Personalised Hand Written TPR Invitation' - again let me emphasize souvenir value only PLUS ALL check in staff are supposed to issue these to ALL R and F pax.

This was moffat's first flight in F - I am tipping the TPR invitation would have been retained and flashed around in front of many people on ret home.

What? Are you actually serious? Why would you want to flash a lounge invitation around? What a laugh. If you want a souvenir of flying F then a photo of you in the seat is a lot more interesting.

Souvenir of course!

I absolutely want one on my upcoming first F trip. It's one of the few souvenirs you can bring home and stick on the fridge. Not necessarily for anyone else to see, but a fun reminder.

Well I am glad I amuse you A_f - I have been trying to get Tommy, penegal and infinity to laugh for years with no result - here I am being serious and I have you cackling like an old chook.

Now you look at the responses of a few others you might just be the 'Lone Ranger' here cowboy! Let me repeat just in case you misread my previous posting - I have helped a number of F and R pax to get there hands on 'Personalesed Hand Written TPR Invitations' when they were not handed same at check in - all these pax were tickled pink when they actually held them in their hands.

But that's what makes up the rich tapestry of life - we are all different huh?

My wife's is on the fridge & mine is a book mark. I had to ask at TPR desk to get them as souvenirs, I couldn't get then at Sydney check in or Sydney lounge (It's printed on your boarding pass sir). Will be checking in at Singapore T3 F check in next year so I think I'll ask for then again. Can never have too many book marks. Photo's are good on the fridge but they are not good book marks. CE maybe they are phasing then out?

Souvenir? I get that. I kinda like the Lufthansa ticket jackets. They're pretty cool design wise and I keep them.

I'm not sure I follow the 'flashing around and showing friends'. I guess some might consider that ostentatious.
