Spoke to Senior MEL Stn staff today and they are exasperated as to every cabin on every flt being virtually 100% full - expect some changes to proposed schedules post 380 disappearance date as current loadings could not be accommodated - must send some feedback on this very matter 👍😎😁

You’ve just proved feedbacks are worthless, these are not F lounge wines and not even J lounge wines. In fact SYD F still seems to have better selection even after the fake upgrade in MEL.

Here are the wines in SYD I’ve posted couple of weeks ago.

Poor old boomy - he does get himself in a tangle when knee deep in Rare in TPR - he is conveniently forgetting that feedback to MEL Stn that saw Koonunga Hill replaced with Max’s - now if he was half way useful in any imaginable way rather that posting that here he would be sending it to MEL Stn and asking why does SYD have superior wine list and better food menu than MEL?

boomster pick your game up buddy 👍

So they replaced one horrible wine on a list full of horrible wines by another wine which is not even J lounge worthy and we should applaud that? Yea, I don’t think so 👎

The Bak Kut Teh - moderately inauthentic
I'll look up the other on
The problem with inauthentic meals is while they may be tasty it leads people to erroneously think the dish should look and taste like that when it does not.

Which style of Bak Kut Teh ? The SQ version is more faithful to what I understand is the Teochew style, tasted similar (understandably slightly less peppery) to the version of the dish I am familiar with at the places I usually have it. Although it could have done with some Youtiao (dough fritters) to dunk in the soup 😋

I ordered this as my second meal on daytime SIN-FRA flight. I wouldn't have selected it for the first meal, but was perfect lighter choice for the second meal.

The soup was not as dark as the usual Sing version which is generally lighter and peppery.. Mind had garlic pellets which is weird. I thought at first they were white peppercorns which are part of the dish but definitely garlic pellets . Taste not bad but different to what I'm used to . I'm not sure what the difference is - likely it's the herbal mix that they use which I'm not sure if they use the real ones or just commercially available ground up herbs.

YouTiao missing from mine as well.

Mine had genuine garlic cloves, not pellets and seemed to be a fairly faithful reproduction of the Bak Kut Teh I was introduced to by a local colleague at Founder Bak Kut Teh, whose store closest to me morphed into Legendary Bak Kut Teh and is very similar to the SQ version also.

Sheesh, all this talk is making me hungry, I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight.

It doesn't come with the normal ingredients such as YouTiao and mushrooms etc.
Yes, the black Chinese mushrooms, though I didn't mind it not being there. It was more the the soup (teh) was not the right taste IMO and the garlic pellets...🤷🏼

Actually @dajop, mine also had a garlic clove:

Now I did eat up all of the red chilies. And yes SQ provides excellent red chillies.

I found the soup generally OK, although lacked the peppery heat I am used to. I mentioned that I am not surprised though about this, once we took my partner's mother to Founder's for some BKT and she had a really intense coughing fit from all the pepper leaving her gasping for air .. you wouldn't want that at 35,000 feet. But alternatively I am guessing those actually ordering it might have and idea what to expect re: pepper.

Yeah it would be different because the herbs used are different.
Song Fa's only has white pepper, salt, spices and permitted enhancers so much less herbs.

I haven't personally tried it on SQ's BTC but I cook it at home quite often so would be interesting to make a comparison.
Perhaps on my next flight 🤣
