SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Sponsor what time of day were you there? Even in old J Lounge in morn many times Champs not out you had to ask for it. Was the bar manned or too early?

As Ronny said on all flts now you need request pre dep bevos in J - that has been posted multiple times in several threads for last 3 to 4 mths that I know of - sorry if you missed the posts.
Here right now. It has been a while since I was in the J Lounge (2018) our last flights through SIN were in the TPR. I can't ever remember not seeing LP or CH Champagne in the J Lounge though on previous trips.

Bar not open until 17.30 will be on board day then. Due to depart at 16.35. Looks a good addition though. The best part is the natural light.

Thanks to you both, I did miss the posts re: pre-departure but will test it out in about an hour.

I have spent some significant time in the SIN SKL business lounge over the last couple of months.

Never was the self service alcohol not available. This includes 6am, although I did not partake.

The alcohol included champagne.

There is a bar which is manned at specific timed but is not important which is to the right of the entrance as well as self service booze nearby. Self service alcohol is also avaliable some way along to the left of entry past the main food serving area.

I asked for some pre-departure champs ex CNS last week, but was denied, although was served some pretty promptly one seatbelt lights went off.

Definitely nothing out in the SKL we were sitting in the booth in front of the bar.

No pre-departure Champagne but we were late boarding and only one door used for the 737-8. So was a bit hectic.

Hi guys, very excited, managed to snag MEL-SIN; SIN-AMS (Velocity redemptions); then FRA-MEL (SQ redemption) next year in June/July for 4 pax in J.

Question re: the FRA-MEL SQ Business Saver redemption. Frankfurt isn't my preferred return point, if four seats happen to open up from Rome, Milan, Paris or Zurich is it fairly easy to change these with Singapore Airlines?

Thanks in advance

Update: 4 x J return opened up from Paris on the same date.

I called SQ, took about 45 minutes on the phone but I was able to change the booking for $25 USD per person, and I think the taxes difference was about 9 euros.

Very happy - just fits the itinerary much better. Will be able to take my daughter to Disneyland Paris on her birthday and the wife will be able to save her outlet shopping until the end of the trip, so we won't need lug an extra suitcase around for five weeks.

There are three 'bars'.

One is manned at specific times (as signed) and is located to the North* of the entrance, the others are self serve alcohol areas. One is a little to the "North" of the occasionally manned bar, the other is maybe 80 metres away toward the Southern part of the lounge.

*For "North", turn right on entry, for "South" turn left.

I’d rather drink water.

Don’t understand the logic of drinking inferior champagne in the lounge when there are much better options onboard.
Not even champagne :( But an NZ sparkling. They had the same in the MEL SKL. It wasn’t terrible. And better than the offering in the NZ lounge, also from NZ, but to me undrinkable.

Some sparkling wines are decent. I’d take Arras from Tassie (used to be served on VA) over Deutz champagne (used to be served on CX) any day of the week.

Thankfully SQ serve good stuff onboard so it doesn’t really matter what they offer in their J lounges.

Well maybe - but what about the cough they serve in TPR? You know the vinegar you are in love with? Thank god for Rare in F Lounge that staff will readily fetch for you.

And whist on SQ and their R / F offerings to serve The Bogan in R or F and in TPR is just a disgrace - no way that is up to F standard (feedback has been sent to SAA Feedback). Flying EK F DXB-MEL in June they served 2010 Astralis in F - OMG - was ity good - mind you they only serve Dom in F onboard and poxy Moet in F Lounge in DXB - experiences on all carriers so mixed.

Like it or not Comtes is legit F champagne. I’m sure some pax complained about Dom which was the previous choice at TPR. Can’t please everyone but would be nice if they added PH to TPR menu for the odd ones who don’t like BdB ;)

Agree about The Bogan. Good drop but more suitable in J. However the Burgs Grand Cru served both in TPR and onboard are outstanding. Hard to compete with EK, their cellar in the sky is second to none but as long as SQ serve Krug and Faiveley GC I’m not complaining :)

EK cellar? Cud not get a burgundy for love nor money in EK in F from Mel to Lhr and return in May. 4 legs stuck with some pretty stodgy Bordeaux, incl one I thought too senior to be served, and not a lot of other choice. OK, perhaps a better palate would have pronounced it alright, but for mine there needs to be a vestige of fruit. CSM agreed, thanks for the feedback..

So pleased to know we can expect some Burg with SQ end of the month. The only issue? A 50-odd minute Sin transit from Mel. Barely enough for a TPR visit, a shower and peruse of the wine list.. more time on the way home tho!

You have done very well.
Absolutely. Very lucky. Had literally just enough points when transferring from IHG, Velocity and Altitude rewards. Thankfully they all landed just in the nick of time. The IHG transfer was the stressful one, can take up to two weeks to come through.

Was happy enough with flights back out of Frankfurt, but Paris is the icing on the cake.

Very thankful to have stumbled across AFF ~10 years ago. Been incredible. This redemption alone is circa $35k if paying cash.

I must have missed those VA Arras days. Damn. It’s a terrific sparkling.

I thought PH Rare is available in the SK F lounge?
In the old TPR, staff brought over a bottle - no idea if that is the case with the new one.

This is still the case but not all pax aware of that option.
Would be better to just add PH on TPR menu.
