SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

With the speeds offered, even on the longest flight I'd be surprised if one could exceed 100mb/flight.
I got terrible speeds that some websites wouldn't open.
But i ran out of data in an hour
Which is really funny because VA can offer internet quite well, a couple of weeks ago my wife and I were in a VA 737 in Y, and were able to comfortably browse the net without too many issues, throughout the entire flight. Granted a 737 has less pax and SYD-MEL is a short hop, but SQ should be able to offer functioning internet, at least in F/R, for a majority of the time of flight.
Anyway, can't really complain too much, SQ does offer a vastly premium product and with good availability that doesn't depend on status, so I'll keep flying with them, regardless of the internet connectivity offered :)

yeah, I wouldnt expect to be able to stream 8k video on a plane for the next 100 years, but it would be nice to be able to basic websites,

for LCC like jetstar international, ive been quite pleasantly surprised that htey have usb ports on the seat, makes 1 thing less to worry about when landing

What are the biggest complaints?
Plenty documented earlier in this thread and across many other sites - but the biggest problem with new R for couples is the distance between seats – you are literally mtrs apart. Even a simple conversation cannot be held between the 2 of you at ‘normal R/F cabin level’ – you need to take it up a few decibels to hear each other which means even when doors to Suites closed those walking past or in adjoining suites with doors open all enjoy your conversation also.

Forget about handing a magazine or whatever across to your partner – you’d need Inspector Gadget arms.

Forget about handing across a glass to sip your partners different choice of Champs or wine – forget about reaching across with a fork or spoonful of your food/meal for them to sample something different to what they have – physically impossible from your seated positions. Even more ridiculous is that pax in 2A/2F are actually seated closer to pax in 3A/3F than they are to their 'partners' in 1A/1F - like what sort of a rocket scientist designed this cabin?

FTR – I hate doors on Suites – I have no desire to hide away from the world – only time I ever have doors closed is when sleeping and plenty times not then either - many love to hideaway in their locked pens but I don't - many like new R - many don't - lucky we don't all like the one girl huh?

The RHS toilet is also a winner. Plenty of space in there....

6/2 ratio is luxurious.

Toilet is a gross waste of space also - EK fit a shower in the same footprint as SQ - 2 times whats more - toilet and shower on both sides of the stairs. And a bar to rear of J cabin - ok these are the only 2 pluses for EK over SQ but they are significant - oh and the EK red wines in F - yep they are sometimes better than SQ - but that's about it.

that is absolutely hilarious,, Iguess you could have a food fight with eachtoehr and throw the food at each other to let each other try eachothers food

im also in the camp for wanting privacy, as people staff/other customers walk past I dont want them peering into my suite either, but at the same time, a fully encolsed suit is a little bit lonely ,

thats what I found a huge different between TPR and business class lounge, diference in privacy, i liked the tpr but I also preferred the fact that the dining area on my visit, the place had other customers

And the champagne (from time to time, for example the Dom P1) and cognac! And lounges (in general). And ground handling (chauffeur cars). And caviar for breakfast, if you want it. I think they're really two quite different products. Each with their pros and cons.

Hoping someone with experience can answer my question. We have a flight on SQ 777-300ER. Seat guru is warning that rows 12,18 & 20 have misaligned windows. Row 12 A & K are attractive as they are in the mini cabin. Does the misalignment have much of an impact on the view out of the plane or anything else to cconsider about those seats?

IMO rows 12-14 are all great. Nothing wrong with row 12. I don't remember the alignment being a problem when I've been in row 12.

All - Couldn't find the answer so hopefully someone can tell me: got Business Class with points, my query: can I take my brother-in-law who is on the same flight but in economy (he will be green with envy I know) into the lounge ? both in Perth and SilverKris Changi ? Thank

What's your status with SQ / any *A carrier?
According to the *A Lounge Access Policy, the following applies (assuming no status):
International Business Class Customers
As an International Business Class Customer you have access to any Star Alliance member carrier’s owned Business Class lounge at the airport where your flight departs, if the following conditions are met:
  • You present a boarding pass in International Business Class on a Star Alliance member airline operated flight
  • Your flight departs on the same day of your visit or latest by 05:00 AM the next morning
  • The lounge shows the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance
You are not entitled to bring any guests.

And if you have *A Gold or above status:
Star Alliance Gold Customers travelling in any class of travel
As a Star Alliance Gold customer travelling in any class on a Star Alliance member airline operated flight, you have access to any member airline lounge at the airport where your flight departs, if the following conditions are met:
  • You present your boarding pass of a Star Alliance member airline operated flight which departs at the same day as your visit or latest by 05:00 AM the next morning.
  • If your boarding pass does not carry the Star Alliance Gold indicator, you will need to also show your valid Star Alliance Gold card.
  • The lounge displays the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.
You are entitled to bring one guest travelling on any Star Alliance flight departing from the same airport on the same day.

If you have star alliance gold (any airline) you can take one guest into the lounge with you. If you don't have any status, no guesting on a business class ticket.

Thank for the answers - I have bugger all of the status so I guess I just wave goodbye to him see him on the other continents :))

Given the 'service' is all on the plane, and the food and drink will be much better on board than in the lounge... maybe spend the time with him in Perth in the general gate area? Guess it depends how much you 'like' your B-I-L :) Business class lounges, especially by yourself if you had a choice to do something else, aren't that much of an experience.

If SIN transit is less than 24hrs, get your $20 Changi each to spend inside

A wonderful shower in the J lounge at SIN (just remember to grab a buzzer in the toilet as soon as you enter the lounge as there can be a queue). Freshen up, then meet your BIL in the public area.

The need for the buzzer depends on the time of day. But yes if the lounge is very busy there will be an attendant with then near the sowers (ie inside the Toilet/Shower Area). If it is say early morning and quiet you just go on in whenever you feel like it.

I've only ever seen a Q twice.
Both for late night departures, post dinner till midnight.
For one of those I was in the Q, and they took me to the F showers
